5 Sunnah Supplications for Entering and Leaving the Mosque – Detailed Guidance

❀ Supplication When Entering the Mosque ❀


The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:


"When you enter the mosque, say:
اَللّٰهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
‘O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.’"
(Muslim, Ṣalāt al-Musāfirīn, Bāb Mā Yaqūlu Idhā Dakhala al-Masjid, 713)


❀ Supplication When Leaving the Mosque ❀


The Prophet ﷺ said:


"When you leave the mosque, say:
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
‘O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty.’"
(Muslim, Ṣalāt al-Musāfirīn, 713)


❀ Supplications of Fāṭimah (رضي الله عنها)


Fāṭimah (رضي الله عنها) reported:


When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque, he would say:


بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللّٰهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوْبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
"In the Name of Allah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive me my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy."


When leaving, he would say:


بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللّٰهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوْبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ فَضْلِكَ
"In the Name of Allah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive me my sins and open for me the doors of Your bounty."
(Ibn Mājah, 771; al-Tirmidhī, 314)


❀ Sending Salām Upon the Prophet ﷺ When Entering and Leaving


Abū Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:


"When you enter the mosque and when you leave it, send salām upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
(Ibn Mājah, 773 – authenticated by Ibn Khuzaymah and Ibn Ḥibbān)


❀ Supplication for Protection from Shayṭān


The Prophet ﷺ said:


"If a person says upon entering the mosque:
أَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ الْعَظِيمِ وَبِوَجْهِهِ الْكَرِيمِ وَسُلْطَانِهِ الْقَدِيمِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
‘I seek refuge with Allah the Almighty, with His noble face, and with His eternal authority from the accursed devil,’
Shayṭān says: ‘He will be safe from me for the rest of the day.’"
(Abū Dāwūd, 466)


❀ Supplication When Going to the Mosque for Fajr


ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنهما) reported:


When the mu’adhdhin called the adhān for Fajr, the Prophet ﷺ would go out for prayer saying:


اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا، وَفِي لِسَانِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِي سَمْعِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِي بَصَرِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ مِنْ خَلْفِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ أَمَامِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ مِنْ فَوْقِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ تَحْتِي نُورًا، اَللّٰهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي نُورًا
"O Allah, place light in my heart, on my tongue, in my hearing, and in my sight. Place light behind me, in front of me, above me, and beneath me. O Allah, grant me light."
(Muslim, Ṣalāt al-Musāfirīn, 763)
