1. Eid Prayer Without Adhan or Iqamah
Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah (RA) said:
"I prayed Eid with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; he led us without adhan, without iqamah, and before the khutbah."
(Muslim 888)
In another narration:
"There is no adhan, no iqamah, no call of any kind for the Eid prayer."
(Bukhari 960; Muslim 887)
2. No Voluntary Prayer in the Eid Ground
Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) said:
"The Prophet ﷺ prayed two rak‘ahs on Eid and did not pray before or after them in the Eid ground."
(Bukhari 964; Muslim 884)
Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (RA) narrated:
"The Prophet ﷺ would not pray before Eid; when he returned home, he would pray two rak‘ahs."
(Ibn Majah 1293)
3. Eating Before and After Eid Prayer
- Eid al-Fitr: The Prophet ﷺ would eat before going to the prayer.
- Eid al-Adha: He would eat after the prayer.
(Tirmidhi 542; Ibn Majah 1756 – authenticated by Ibn Hibban, Ibn Khuzaymah, al-Hakim, and al-Dhahabi)
4. Odd-Number Dates Before Eid al-Fitr Prayer
The Prophet ﷺ would eat an odd number of dates before leaving for Eid al-Fitr.
(Bukhari 953)
5. Eid Prayer in Villages
Anas ibn Malik (RA), when unable to attend the Eid prayer in the city, would gather his household and servants and have his servant ‘Abdullah ibn Abi ‘Atbah lead them in Eid prayer similar to the people in the city.
