إِنَّ الْـحَمْدَ لِلَّهِ، نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ، مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللَّهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، أَمَّا بَعْدُ:
﴿وَوَصَّيْنَا الْإِنسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ إِحْسَانًا...﴾
[Surah Al-Ahqaf: 15]
Translation:
“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. When he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, ‘My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.’”

«...فقال ابن عباس: هل أمك حية؟ قال: لا. قال: تب إلى الله عز وجل وتقرب إليه ما استطعت...»

Translation:
A man came to Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما and said: “I proposed to a woman, but she refused me. Then another man proposed to her and she accepted. I became jealous and killed her. Is there any repentance for me?” Ibn Abbas asked: “Is your mother alive?” The man said: “No.” Ibn Abbas replied: “Repent to Allah and draw close to Him as much as you can.” Later, someone asked Ibn Abbas why he had asked about the man's mother. He replied: “I do not know of any deed more beloved to Allah than being kind to one’s mother.”

«أتتني أمي راغبة في عهد النبي ﷺ فسألت النبي ﷺ: أصلها؟ قال: نعم.»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5978]
Translation:
Asma bint Abi Bakr رضي الله عنها said: “My mother, who was a polytheist, came to me during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. I asked the Prophet ﷺ: ‘Should I maintain ties with her?’ He ﷺ said: ‘Yes, do maintain ties with her.’”
Arabic:
«...قال: أمك. قال: ثم من؟ قال: أمك. قال: ثم من؟ قال: أمك. قال: ثم من؟ قال: ثم أبوك.»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5971 | Sahih Muslim: 6501]
Translation:
A man asked the Prophet ﷺ: “Who is most deserving of my good companionship?” He ﷺ replied: “Your mother.” The man asked: “Then who?” He ﷺ said: “Your mother.” The man asked again: “Then who?” He ﷺ said: “Your mother.” The man asked once more: “Then who?” He ﷺ said: “Your father.”
﴿وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا...﴾
[Surah Al-Isra: 23]
Translation:
“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], ‘uff,’ and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.”

«...قلت: ثم أي؟ قال: بر الوالدين...»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5070]
Translation:
I asked the Prophet ﷺ: “Which deed is most beloved to Allah?” He said: “Prayer at its appointed time.” I asked: “Then what?” He said: “Being dutiful to parents.” I asked: “Then what?” He said: “Jihad in the way of Allah.”
Arabic:
«رِضَا الرَّبِّ فِي رِضَا الْوَالِدِ، وَسَخَطُ الرَّبِّ فِي سَخَطِ الْوَالِدِ»
[Tirmidhi: 1899 | Sahih Ibn Hibban: 328 | Al-Hakim: 7331]
Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The pleasure of the Lord lies in the pleasure of the parent, and the anger of the Lord lies in the anger of the parent.”
Arabic:
«أنا الرحمن وهي الرحم، من وصلها وصلته ومن قطعها بتته»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 1694]
Translation:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah said: I am Ar-Rahman (the Most Merciful), and this is the rahim (womb, kinship). I have derived its name from My Name. Whoever maintains it, I shall maintain ties with him; whoever cuts it off, I shall sever ties with him.”

«...فالزمها فإن الجنة عند رجليها»
[Sunan an-Nasa’i: 3104 – Hasan Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking permission to participate in Jihad. The Prophet ﷺ asked: “Is your mother alive?” He said: “Yes.” The Prophet ﷺ replied: “Stay with her, for Paradise lies at her feet.”
﴿رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي...﴾
[Surah Ibrahim: 40–41]
Translation:
“My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, accept my supplication. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.”
Arabic:
«ثَلاثُ دَعَوَاتٍ مُسْتَجَابَاتٌ... وَدَعْوَةُ الْوَالِدِ عَلَى وَلَدِهِ»
[Tirmidhi: 1905 | Ibn Majah: 3862 – Hasan by Al-Albani]
Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Three supplications are undoubtedly accepted: the prayer of the oppressed, the traveler’s prayer, and the prayer of a parent for his child.”
This is the famous Hadith of the Three in the Cave, where one of them mentioned his act of serving his parents with milk before his children. Due to this sincere deed, Allah opened the cave and relieved them.

Translation:
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “I have committed a grave sin. Is there any repentance for me?” He ﷺ asked: “Is your mother alive?” He said: “No.” The Prophet ﷺ asked: “Do you have a maternal aunt?” He replied: “Yes.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Then treat her kindly.”
Arabic:
«...قال: ففيهما فجاهد»
[Sahih Bukhari: 3004]
Translation:
A man asked permission to go for Jihad. The Prophet ﷺ asked: “Are your parents alive?” He replied: “Yes.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Then strive in their service.”
﴿وَإِن جَاهَدَاكَ... فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا﴾
[Surah Luqman: 15]
Translation:
“But if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness.”
Arabic:
«...فأنزل الله: وَإِن جَاهَدَاكَ عَلَىٰ أَن تُشْرِكَ...»
[Sahih Muslim: 1748 | Al-Adab Al-Mufrad: 24]
Translation:
Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas رضي الله عنه narrated that four verses of the Qur'an were revealed in connection with him, including the verse about showing kindness to parents even if they try to force one into shirk.

[Sunan Abu Dawood: 5138 – Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما said: I had a wife whom I loved, but my father, Umar رضي الله عنه, disliked her and told me to divorce her. I refused. Umar went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it to him. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Divorce her.”
Arabic:
«لَا يَجْزِي وَلَدٌ وَالِدًا إِلَّا أَنْ يَجِدَهُ مَمْلُوكًا فَيَشْتَرِيَهُ فَيُعْتِقَهُ»
[Sahih Muslim: 1510 | Sunan al-Tirmidhi: 1906]
Translation:
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
A son cannot repay his father unless he finds him as a slave, purchases him, and sets him free.
Arabic:
«إِنَّ أَبَرَّ الْبِرِّ صِلَةُ الْمَرْءِ أَهْلَ وُدِّ أَبِيهِ بَعْدَ أَنْ يُوَلِّيَ»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 5143]
Translation:
Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما reported:
Among the greatest acts of righteousness is for a person to maintain ties with his father’s friends after his death.
Arabic:
«لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنَّانٌ، وَلَا عَاقٌّ، وَلَا مُدْمِنُ خَمْرٍ»
[Sunan al-Nasa’i: 5672 | Silsilah al-Sahihah: 670]
Translation:
Abdullah ibn Amr رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
The one who reminds others of his favors (mannān), the one who is disobedient to his parents (‘āqq), and the one who is addicted to alcohol will not enter Paradise.
﴿وَإِن جَاهَدَاكَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ تُشْرِكَ بِي...﴾
[Surah Luqman: 15]
Translation:
If they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them; but accompany them in this world with kindness.
Arabic:
«...الطَّاعَةُ فِي الْمَعْرُوفِ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 4340]
Translation:
Ali رضي الله عنه narrated:
The Prophet ﷺ appointed a leader over a group and instructed them to obey him. The leader, in anger, ordered them to enter a fire. Some were ready to obey, but others held them back saying: We accepted Islam to escape from fire!
When this was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, he said:
Had they entered it, they would not have come out. Obedience is only in what is right.
Arabic:
«يُرْفَعُ لِهُ لِوَاءٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، يُقَالُ: هَذِهِ غَدْرَةُ فُلَانِ بْنِ فُلَانٍ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 6177]
Translation:
Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
A banner will be raised on the Day of Judgment for the traitor, and it will be said: ‘This is the betrayal of so-and-so, the son of so-and-so.’
Arabic:
«...فَيُبَرِّكُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيَحْنَكُهُمْ»
[Sahih Muslim: 5619]
Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها reported:
The Prophet ﷺ would be brought newborns. He would supplicate for blessings and perform tahneek (chew a date and place it in the baby’s mouth).
Arabic:
«...فَسَمَّاهُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَحَنَّكَهُ بِتَمْرَةٍ وَدَعَا لَهُ بِالْبَرَكَةِ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5467 | Sahih Muslim: 5615]
Translation:
Abu Musa رضي الله عنه said:
A son was born to me, and I brought him to the Prophet ﷺ. He named him Ibrahim, performed tahneek with a date, and prayed for blessings for him.
Arabic:
«أَن نَعُقَّ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَيْنِ، وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةً»
[Sunan Ibn Majah: 3163 – Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed us to perform ‘Aqīqah: two sheep for a boy and one for a girl.
Arabic:
«...فَكَانُوا يَذْبَحُونَ شَاةً، وَيَحْلِقُونَ رَأْسَهُ، وَيَلُطِّخُونَهُ بِالزَّعْفَرَانِ»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 2843 – Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Buraidah رضي الله عنه said:
In the Days of Ignorance, when a boy was born, we would slaughter a sheep and smear its blood on his head. After Islam came, we would slaughter a sheep, shave his head, and apply saffron instead.
Arabic:
«...قَالَ: لَا، أَنْتَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ»
[Sahih Al-Adab Al-Mufrad: 811]
Translation:
Hani bin Yazid رضي الله عنه narrated:
The Prophet ﷺ heard someone being called “Abd al-Hajar (slave of the stone),” and he said: “What is your name?” He replied: “Abd al-Hajar.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “No, you are Abdullāh (slave of Allah).”
Arabic:
«الْفِطْرَةُ خَمْسٌ: الْخِتَانُ...»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5891]
Translation:
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
Five are from the fitrah (natural disposition): circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, trimming the mustache, cutting the nails, and plucking underarm hair.
﴿وَعَلَى الْمَوْلُودِ لَهُ رِزْقُهُنَّ وَكِسْوَتُهُنَّ...﴾
[Surah Al-Baqarah: 233]
Translation:
And the father of the child shall bear the cost of their food and clothing on equitable terms.
Arabic:
«...قَالَ: تَصَدَّقْ بِهِ عَلَى وَلَدِكَ...»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 1691 – Hasan by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported:
When the Prophet ﷺ instructed charity, a man said: “I have one dinar.” He ﷺ said: “Spend it on yourself.” He said: “Another?” He ﷺ said: “Spend it on your child.” Then: “Another?” He ﷺ said: “On your wife.” Then: “Another?” He ﷺ said: “On your servant.” Then he said: “I have more.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “You know best where to spend it.”
﴿رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا﴾
[Surah Al-Isra: 24]
Translation:
My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.
Arabic:
«مَا مِنْ مَوْلُودٍ إِلَّا يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ...»
[Sahih Bukhari: 1358]
Translation:
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
Every child is born upon the natural disposition (fitrah), but his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian. Just as animals give birth to perfect offspring—do you find any mutilated among them?
Then he recited:
﴿فِطْرَتَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا...﴾
﴿وَكَانَ يَأْمُرُ أَهْلَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ...﴾
[Surah Maryam: 55]
Translation:
He (Ismail عليه السلام) used to enjoin his people to pray and give zakah, and was pleasing to his Lord.
Arabic:
«مُرُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ بِالصَّلَاةِ...»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 495 | Mustadrak al-Hakim: 734 – Hasan Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Amr ibn Shu‘ayb narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
Instruct your children to pray at the age of seven, and discipline them for it at ten. Separate their beds.
Arabic:
«تُقَبِّلُونَ الصِّبْيَانَ؟ فَمَا نُقَبِّلُهُمْ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: أَوَأَمْلِكُ لَكَ أَنْ نَزَعَ اللَّهُ مِنْ قَلْبِكَ الرَّحْمَةَ؟»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5998]
Translation:
A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “You kiss children? We do not kiss them.”
The Prophet ﷺ replied: “What can I do for you if Allah has removed mercy from your heart?”
Arabic:
«...مَنْ ابْتُلِيَ مِنَ الْبَنَاتِ بِشَيْءٍ، فَأَحْسَنَ إِلَيْهِنَّ، كُنَّ لَهُ سِتْرًا مِنَ النَّارِ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 1418 | Sahih Muslim: 6693]
Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها narrated:
A woman came to me with her two daughters and asked for charity. I had only one date, so I gave it to her. She split it between her daughters and did not eat anything herself. Later, I informed the Prophet ﷺ and he said: “Whoever is tested with daughters and treats them kindly, they will be a shield for him from the Hellfire.”
﴿اعْدِلُوا هُوَ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ﴾
[Surah Al-Ma’idah: 8]
Translation:
Be just; it is closer to righteousness.
Arabic Summary:
Nu‘mān bin Bashīr رضي الله عنه said his father gave him a gift and brought the Prophet ﷺ as a witness. The Prophet ﷺ asked:
“Have you given all your children a similar gift?”
He replied: “No.”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Then take it back.”
In another version, he ﷺ said: “Fear Allah and treat your children equally.”

«...إِلَّا دَخَلَتِ الْجَنَّةَ»
[Sahih Muslim: 6698]
Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Any woman who loses three children and remains patient, will enter Paradise.
A woman asked: “What if two?”
He ﷺ replied: “Even two.”
Arabic:
«...فَيَلِجُ النَّارَ إِلَّا تَحِلَّةَ الْقَسَمِ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 1251]
Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
A Muslim who loses three children will not enter the Fire, except to fulfill the divine oath.
Arabic:
«اثْنَانِ فِي النَّاسِ هُمَا بِهِمْ كُفْرٌ: الطَّعْنُ فِي النَّسَبِ، وَالنِّيَاحَةُ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ»
[Sahih Muslim: 227]
Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Two acts among people are considered disbelief: reviling lineage and wailing over the dead.
Arabic Summary:
Anas bin Malik رضي الله عنه narrated: The Prophet ﷺ kissed his son Ibrahim and smelled him. Later, when Ibrahim was dying, the Prophet ﷺ shed tears. ‘Abdur-Rahman ibn ‘Awf asked: “You too, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied:
“O Ibn ‘Awf, it is mercy.”
Then he added:
“The eyes shed tears and the heart grieves, but we only say what pleases our Lord. O Ibrahim! Indeed, we are saddened by your separation.”

Arabic Summary:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Whoever follows a Muslim’s funeral out of faith and hope for reward, and remains until it is buried, will return with two rewards, each as great as Mount Uhud.

Arabic:
«...وَالسِّقْطُ يُصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَيُدْعَى لِوَالِدَيْهِ بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ وَالرَّحْمَةِ»

Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
A stillborn child should be prayed over, and supplication made for his parents for mercy and forgiveness.

Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها reported:
Ibrahim, the son of the Prophet ﷺ, died at 18 months. The Prophet ﷺ did not perform his funeral prayer.
Arabic:
«لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ إِلَّا وَمَعَهَا ذُو مَحْرَمٍ»
[Sahih Muslim: 3274]
Translation:
Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما reported:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
No man should be alone with a woman unless her mahram is present.
﴿الْخَبِيثَاتُ لِلْخَبِيثِينَ...﴾
[Surah An-Nur: 26]
Translation:
Impure women are for impure men, and impure men are for impure women. Pure women are for pure men, and pure men are for pure women.
Arabic Summary:
Marthad رضي الله عنه wanted to marry a woman named ‘Anāq, who was a prostitute from his past. The Prophet ﷺ remained silent until the verse was revealed:
﴿الزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَا إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌ﴾
Then he ﷺ told him:
“Do not marry her.”

Arabic:
«فَخَيَّرَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 2096 – Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
A virgin girl came to the Prophet ﷺ and complained that her father had married her off against her will. The Prophet ﷺ gave her the choice to accept or reject the marriage.
Arabic:
«أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ نَكَحَتْ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ وَلِيِّهَا، فَنِكَاحُهَا بَاطِلٌ...»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 2083 | Sunan al-Tirmidhi: 1102 – Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
Any woman who marries without the permission of her wali, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid.
ﷺ May Allah's peace and blessings be upon the best of creation, Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions.

◈ Kindness Towards Parents
❖ Qur'anic Injunction:
﴿وَوَصَّيْنَا الْإِنسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ إِحْسَانًا...﴾
[Surah Al-Ahqaf: 15]
Translation:

Arabic:

Translation:
A man asked the Prophet ﷺ: “Who is most deserving of my good companionship?” He ﷺ replied: “Your mother.” The man asked: “Then who?” He ﷺ said: “Your mother.” The man asked again: “Then who?” He ﷺ said: “Your mother.” The man asked once more: “Then who?” He ﷺ said: “Your father.”
❖ Qur'anic Injunction – Excellence in Conduct
﴿وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا...﴾
[Surah Al-Isra: 23]
Translation:
“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], ‘uff,’ and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.”
❖ Hadith ④ – Best of Deeds
Arabic:
«...قلت: ثم أي؟ قال: بر الوالدين...»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5070]
Translation:
I asked the Prophet ﷺ: “Which deed is most beloved to Allah?” He said: “Prayer at its appointed time.” I asked: “Then what?” He said: “Being dutiful to parents.” I asked: “Then what?” He said: “Jihad in the way of Allah.”
❖ Hadith ⑤ – Allah’s Pleasure in Parents' Pleasure
Arabic:
«رِضَا الرَّبِّ فِي رِضَا الْوَالِدِ، وَسَخَطُ الرَّبِّ فِي سَخَطِ الْوَالِدِ»

Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The pleasure of the Lord lies in the pleasure of the parent, and the anger of the Lord lies in the anger of the parent.”
❖ Hadith ⑥ – Bond of Kinship Linked to Allah's Name
Arabic:
«أنا الرحمن وهي الرحم، من وصلها وصلته ومن قطعها بتته»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 1694]
Translation:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah said: I am Ar-Rahman (the Most Merciful), and this is the rahim (womb, kinship). I have derived its name from My Name. Whoever maintains it, I shall maintain ties with him; whoever cuts it off, I shall sever ties with him.”
❖ Hadith ⑦ – Paradise Lies at Mother's Feet
Arabic:
«...فالزمها فإن الجنة عند رجليها»
[Sunan an-Nasa’i: 3104 – Hasan Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking permission to participate in Jihad. The Prophet ﷺ asked: “Is your mother alive?” He said: “Yes.” The Prophet ﷺ replied: “Stay with her, for Paradise lies at her feet.”
❖ Qur'anic Du'a – Parents' Supplication for Children
﴿رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي...﴾
[Surah Ibrahim: 40–41]
Translation:
“My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, accept my supplication. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.”
❖ Hadith ⑧ – Three Duas That Are Never Rejected
Arabic:
«ثَلاثُ دَعَوَاتٍ مُسْتَجَابَاتٌ... وَدَعْوَةُ الْوَالِدِ عَلَى وَلَدِهِ»
[Tirmidhi: 1905 | Ibn Majah: 3862 – Hasan by Al-Albani]
Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Three supplications are undoubtedly accepted: the prayer of the oppressed, the traveler’s prayer, and the prayer of a parent for his child.”
❖ Hadith ⑨ – Obedience to Parents Alleviates Hardship
This is the famous Hadith of the Three in the Cave, where one of them mentioned his act of serving his parents with milk before his children. Due to this sincere deed, Allah opened the cave and relieved them.

❖ Hadith ⑩ – Obedience to Parents as Atonement for Sin

Translation:
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “I have committed a grave sin. Is there any repentance for me?” He ﷺ asked: “Is your mother alive?” He said: “No.” The Prophet ﷺ asked: “Do you have a maternal aunt?” He replied: “Yes.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Then treat her kindly.”
❖ Hadith ⑪ – Jihad Requires Parental Consent
Arabic:
«...قال: ففيهما فجاهد»
[Sahih Bukhari: 3004]
Translation:
A man asked permission to go for Jihad. The Prophet ﷺ asked: “Are your parents alive?” He replied: “Yes.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Then strive in their service.”
❖ Qur'anic Instruction – No Obedience in Shirk, Yet Be Kind
﴿وَإِن جَاهَدَاكَ... فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا﴾
[Surah Luqman: 15]
Translation:
“But if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness.”
❖ Hadith ⑫ – Multiple Verses Revealed for Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas
Arabic:
«...فأنزل الله: وَإِن جَاهَدَاكَ عَلَىٰ أَن تُشْرِكَ...»

Translation:
Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas رضي الله عنه narrated that four verses of the Qur'an were revealed in connection with him, including the verse about showing kindness to parents even if they try to force one into shirk.
❖ Hadith ⑬ – Father’s Command to Divorce

«...فقال النبي ﷺ: طلقها»

Translation:
Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما said: I had a wife whom I loved, but my father, Umar رضي الله عنه, disliked her and told me to divorce her. I refused. Umar went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it to him. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Divorce her.”
❖ Fulfilling Parents’ Rights
Hadith ⑭ – A Son Cannot Fully Repay His Father
Arabic:
«لَا يَجْزِي وَلَدٌ وَالِدًا إِلَّا أَنْ يَجِدَهُ مَمْلُوكًا فَيَشْتَرِيَهُ فَيُعْتِقَهُ»

Translation:
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
A son cannot repay his father unless he finds him as a slave, purchases him, and sets him free.
❖ Maintaining Ties With Parents' Friends
Hadith ⑮ – Loyalty After Parents' Death
Arabic:
«إِنَّ أَبَرَّ الْبِرِّ صِلَةُ الْمَرْءِ أَهْلَ وُدِّ أَبِيهِ بَعْدَ أَنْ يُوَلِّيَ»

Translation:
Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما reported:
Among the greatest acts of righteousness is for a person to maintain ties with his father’s friends after his death.
❖ Disobedience to Parents and Entry to Hell
Hadith ⑯ – Disobedience Leads to Deprivation From Paradise
Arabic:
«لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنَّانٌ، وَلَا عَاقٌّ، وَلَا مُدْمِنُ خَمْرٍ»
[Sunan al-Nasa’i: 5672 | Silsilah al-Sahihah: 670]
Translation:
Abdullah ibn Amr رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
The one who reminds others of his favors (mannān), the one who is disobedient to his parents (‘āqq), and the one who is addicted to alcohol will not enter Paradise.
❖ No Obedience to Parents in Disobedience to Allah
Qur’anic Verse:
﴿وَإِن جَاهَدَاكَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ تُشْرِكَ بِي...﴾
[Surah Luqman: 15]
Translation:
If they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them; but accompany them in this world with kindness.
Hadith ⑰ – Obedience Only in Righteousness
Arabic:
«...الطَّاعَةُ فِي الْمَعْرُوفِ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 4340]
Translation:
Ali رضي الله عنه narrated:
The Prophet ﷺ appointed a leader over a group and instructed them to obey him. The leader, in anger, ordered them to enter a fire. Some were ready to obey, but others held them back saying: We accepted Islam to escape from fire!
When this was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, he said:
Had they entered it, they would not have come out. Obedience is only in what is right.
❖ Children Will Be Called by Their Father’s Name on the Day of Judgment
Hadith ⑱ – Identity on the Day of Judgment
Arabic:
«يُرْفَعُ لِهُ لِوَاءٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، يُقَالُ: هَذِهِ غَدْرَةُ فُلَانِ بْنِ فُلَانٍ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 6177]
Translation:
Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
A banner will be raised on the Day of Judgment for the traitor, and it will be said: ‘This is the betrayal of so-and-so, the son of so-and-so.’
❖ Newborns and Their Islamic Upbringing
Hadith ⑲ – Tahneek and Du‘ā for Blessing
Arabic:
«...فَيُبَرِّكُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيَحْنَكُهُمْ»
[Sahih Muslim: 5619]
Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها reported:
The Prophet ﷺ would be brought newborns. He would supplicate for blessings and perform tahneek (chew a date and place it in the baby’s mouth).
Hadith ⑳ – Naming and Tahneek

«...فَسَمَّاهُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَحَنَّكَهُ بِتَمْرَةٍ وَدَعَا لَهُ بِالْبَرَكَةِ»

Translation:
Abu Musa رضي الله عنه said:
A son was born to me, and I brought him to the Prophet ﷺ. He named him Ibrahim, performed tahneek with a date, and prayed for blessings for him.
❖ ‘Aqīqah – Sacrificial Offering for Newborns

«أَن نَعُقَّ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَيْنِ، وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةً»

Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed us to perform ‘Aqīqah: two sheep for a boy and one for a girl.
❖ Shaving the Head of the Newborn
Hadith ㉒ – Abolishing Pre-Islamic Rituals

«...فَكَانُوا يَذْبَحُونَ شَاةً، وَيَحْلِقُونَ رَأْسَهُ، وَيَلُطِّخُونَهُ بِالزَّعْفَرَانِ»

Translation:
Buraidah رضي الله عنه said:
In the Days of Ignorance, when a boy was born, we would slaughter a sheep and smear its blood on his head. After Islam came, we would slaughter a sheep, shave his head, and apply saffron instead.
❖ Naming Children with Appropriate Names
Hadith ㉓ – Prohibition of Pagan Names

«...قَالَ: لَا، أَنْتَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ»

Translation:
Hani bin Yazid رضي الله عنه narrated:
The Prophet ﷺ heard someone being called “Abd al-Hajar (slave of the stone),” and he said: “What is your name?” He replied: “Abd al-Hajar.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “No, you are Abdullāh (slave of Allah).”
❖ Circumcision of Boys
Hadith ㉔ – Five Acts of Natural Disposition (Fitrah)
Arabic:
«الْفِطْرَةُ خَمْسٌ: الْخِتَانُ...»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5891]
Translation:
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
Five are from the fitrah (natural disposition): circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, trimming the mustache, cutting the nails, and plucking underarm hair.
❖ Providing for Children
Qur’anic Verse:
﴿وَعَلَى الْمَوْلُودِ لَهُ رِزْقُهُنَّ وَكِسْوَتُهُنَّ...﴾
[Surah Al-Baqarah: 233]
Translation:
And the father of the child shall bear the cost of their food and clothing on equitable terms.
Hadith ㉕ – Charity Begins at Home
Arabic:
«...قَالَ: تَصَدَّقْ بِهِ عَلَى وَلَدِكَ...»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 1691 – Hasan by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported:
When the Prophet ﷺ instructed charity, a man said: “I have one dinar.” He ﷺ said: “Spend it on yourself.” He said: “Another?” He ﷺ said: “Spend it on your child.” Then: “Another?” He ﷺ said: “On your wife.” Then: “Another?” He ﷺ said: “On your servant.” Then he said: “I have more.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “You know best where to spend it.”
❖ Raising and Educating Children
Qur’anic Verse:
﴿رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا﴾
[Surah Al-Isra: 24]
Translation:
My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.
Hadith ㉖ – Every Child is Born Upon Fitrah
Arabic:
«مَا مِنْ مَوْلُودٍ إِلَّا يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ...»
[Sahih Bukhari: 1358]
Translation:
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
Every child is born upon the natural disposition (fitrah), but his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian. Just as animals give birth to perfect offspring—do you find any mutilated among them?
Then he recited:
﴿فِطْرَتَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا...﴾
❖ Commanding Children to Pray
Qur’anic Verse:
﴿وَكَانَ يَأْمُرُ أَهْلَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ...﴾
[Surah Maryam: 55]
Translation:
He (Ismail عليه السلام) used to enjoin his people to pray and give zakah, and was pleasing to his Lord.
Hadith ㉗ – Teach Salah from Age Seven
Arabic:
«مُرُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ بِالصَّلَاةِ...»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 495 | Mustadrak al-Hakim: 734 – Hasan Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Amr ibn Shu‘ayb narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
Instruct your children to pray at the age of seven, and discipline them for it at ten. Separate their beds.
❖ Showing Love to Children
Hadith ㉘ – Kissing and Loving Children is Mercy
Arabic:
«تُقَبِّلُونَ الصِّبْيَانَ؟ فَمَا نُقَبِّلُهُمْ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: أَوَأَمْلِكُ لَكَ أَنْ نَزَعَ اللَّهُ مِنْ قَلْبِكَ الرَّحْمَةَ؟»
[Sahih Bukhari: 5998]
Translation:
A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “You kiss children? We do not kiss them.”
The Prophet ﷺ replied: “What can I do for you if Allah has removed mercy from your heart?”
❖ Kindness to Daughters
Hadith ㉙ – Daughters are a Shield from Hell
Arabic:
«...مَنْ ابْتُلِيَ مِنَ الْبَنَاتِ بِشَيْءٍ، فَأَحْسَنَ إِلَيْهِنَّ، كُنَّ لَهُ سِتْرًا مِنَ النَّارِ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 1418 | Sahih Muslim: 6693]
Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها narrated:
A woman came to me with her two daughters and asked for charity. I had only one date, so I gave it to her. She split it between her daughters and did not eat anything herself. Later, I informed the Prophet ﷺ and he said: “Whoever is tested with daughters and treats them kindly, they will be a shield for him from the Hellfire.”
❖ Justice Between Children
Qur'anic Instruction:
﴿اعْدِلُوا هُوَ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ﴾
[Surah Al-Ma’idah: 8]
Translation:
Be just; it is closer to righteousness.
Hadith ㉚ – No Favoritism Among Children
Arabic Summary:
Nu‘mān bin Bashīr رضي الله عنه said his father gave him a gift and brought the Prophet ﷺ as a witness. The Prophet ﷺ asked:
“Have you given all your children a similar gift?”
He replied: “No.”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Then take it back.”
In another version, he ﷺ said: “Fear Allah and treat your children equally.”

❖ Patience Over the Loss of Children
Hadith ㉛ – Reward for Losing Children with Patience
Arabic:
«...إِلَّا دَخَلَتِ الْجَنَّةَ»

Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Any woman who loses three children and remains patient, will enter Paradise.
A woman asked: “What if two?”
He ﷺ replied: “Even two.”
Hadith ㉜ – Entering Hell Only to Fulfill the Oath
Arabic:
«...فَيَلِجُ النَّارَ إِلَّا تَحِلَّةَ الْقَسَمِ»
[Sahih Bukhari: 1251]
Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
A Muslim who loses three children will not enter the Fire, except to fulfill the divine oath.
❖ Condemned Acts in Mourning
Hadith ㉝ – Taunting Lineage and Wailing Are Acts of Kufr
Arabic:
«اثْنَانِ فِي النَّاسِ هُمَا بِهِمْ كُفْرٌ: الطَّعْنُ فِي النَّسَبِ، وَالنِّيَاحَةُ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ»
[Sahih Muslim: 227]
Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Two acts among people are considered disbelief: reviling lineage and wailing over the dead.
❖ Grieving for a Child
Hadith ㉞ – The Prophet’s Grief Over Ibrahim
Arabic Summary:
Anas bin Malik رضي الله عنه narrated: The Prophet ﷺ kissed his son Ibrahim and smelled him. Later, when Ibrahim was dying, the Prophet ﷺ shed tears. ‘Abdur-Rahman ibn ‘Awf asked: “You too, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied:
“O Ibn ‘Awf, it is mercy.”
Then he added:
“The eyes shed tears and the heart grieves, but we only say what pleases our Lord. O Ibrahim! Indeed, we are saddened by your separation.”

❖ Funeral Prayer for Children
Hadith ㉟ – Great Reward for Attending Janazah
Arabic Summary:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Whoever follows a Muslim’s funeral out of faith and hope for reward, and remains until it is buried, will return with two rewards, each as great as Mount Uhud.

Hadith ㊱ – Funeral Prayer for Miscarried Child

«...وَالسِّقْطُ يُصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَيُدْعَى لِوَالِدَيْهِ بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ وَالرَّحْمَةِ»

Translation:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
A stillborn child should be prayed over, and supplication made for his parents for mercy and forgiveness.
Hadith ㊲ – No Janazah for a Young Child

«...فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 3187 – Hasan by Al-Albani]
Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها reported:
Ibrahim, the son of the Prophet ﷺ, died at 18 months. The Prophet ﷺ did not perform his funeral prayer.
❖ Girls and Prohibition of Seclusion with Non-Mahram Men
Hadith ㊳ – No Khalwah (Privacy) with Non-Mahram
Arabic:
«لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ إِلَّا وَمَعَهَا ذُو مَحْرَمٍ»
[Sahih Muslim: 3274]
Translation:
Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما reported:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
No man should be alone with a woman unless her mahram is present.
❖ Choosing Righteous Spouses for Children
Qur’anic Verse:
﴿الْخَبِيثَاتُ لِلْخَبِيثِينَ...﴾
[Surah An-Nur: 26]
Translation:
Impure women are for impure men, and impure men are for impure women. Pure women are for pure men, and pure men are for pure women.
Hadith ㊴ – Prohibition of Marrying a Fornicator
Arabic Summary:
Marthad رضي الله عنه wanted to marry a woman named ‘Anāq, who was a prostitute from his past. The Prophet ﷺ remained silent until the verse was revealed:
﴿الزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَا إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌ﴾
Then he ﷺ told him:
“Do not marry her.”

❖ Seeking Consent of the Girl Before Marriage
Hadith ㊵ – A Virgin Must Be Asked for Permission
Arabic:
«فَخَيَّرَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ»
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 2096 – Sahih by Al-Albani]
Translation:
A virgin girl came to the Prophet ﷺ and complained that her father had married her off against her will. The Prophet ﷺ gave her the choice to accept or reject the marriage.
❖ A Woman Cannot Marry Without a Guardian
Hadith ㊶ – No Nikah Without Wali
Arabic:
«أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ نَكَحَتْ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ وَلِيِّهَا، فَنِكَاحُهَا بَاطِلٌ...»

Translation:
Aishah رضي الله عنها reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
Any woman who marries without the permission of her wali, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid.
ﷺ May Allah's peace and blessings be upon the best of creation, Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions.
