3 Authentic Quranic Methods for Protection Against Black Magic

❖ Question:

Is black magic real? Does it have any effect? What is the correct way to protect oneself from it?

❖ Answer:

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد!

✿ What is Black Magic?

“Black magic” actually refers to sihr (i.e., magic or sorcery).

The partial and temporary effects of magic are proven through the Qur'an and Hadith.

✿ Qur'anic Example:

When the magicians of Egypt threw down their ropes and staffs,
Mūsā (علیہ السلام) perceived them to be moving like snakes.

Even Mūsā (علیہ السلام) experienced fear in that moment.

◈ Qur'anic Evidence:

"فَإِذَا حِبَالُهُمْ وَعِصِيُّهُمْ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِن سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَىٰ • فَأَوْجَسَ فِي نَفْسِهِ خِيفَةً مُّوسَىٰ"
(Sūrah Ṭāhā: 66–67)

✿ Authentic Methods of Protection from Black Magic:

Recitation of Al-Muʿawwidhatayn (Sūrah al-Falaq & Sūrah al-Nās)
Recitation of Āyah al-Kursī
Other Prescribed (Masnūn) Supplications

All of these are means of divine protection against the effects of magic.
