"Apne Aap Par Dum Kaise Karein" by Shaykh Shubhoot bin Salih al-Murri
(Protection and Treatment from the Evil Eye, Magic, and Possession)
(Excerpt from: Badā’iʿ al-Fawā’id, 2/245238)
One must seek refuge in Allah ﷻ from all kinds of harm and turn to Him for protection.
This involves guarding His commands and prohibitions. Whoever adopts taqwa, Allah ﷻ guarantees their protection and does not abandon them to others.
Qur’anic Verse:
“If you are patient and fear Allah, their plot will not harm you in the least.”
[Āl ʿImrān: 120]
Hadith:
The Prophet ﷺ said to Ibn ʿAbbās
“Safeguard Allah’s commandments, and He will safeguard you.”
[Sahih al-Tirmidhī: 2516]
Neither engage in fighting, nor complain, nor let your heart be preoccupied with retaliating against them. Nothing overcomes the envious or hostile enemy better than patience.
Whoever places their trust in Allah ﷻ, He suffices for them. Against harm, torment, and hostility, there is no support greater or more powerful than sincere reliance on Allah.
One should clear the heart of evil assumptions and negative thoughts. Do not dwell on such ideas or allow fear to settle in the heart regarding them.
Devote yourself entirely to Allah ﷻ in worship and uphold His oneness sincerely.
Sincerely repent before Allah ﷻ for the sins that may have been a result of enmity or caused the affliction.
Qur’anic Verse:
“Whatever calamity befalls you is because of what your hands have earned, and He pardons much.”
[Al-Shūrā: 30]
Give charity and extend kindness to others as much as possible. Indeed, these acts have an amazing impact in warding off afflictions, neutralizing the evil eye, and protecting from the harm of envy.
Respond to the envious, rebellious, or hurtful person with goodness. The more intense their harm or hostility, the more benevolence should be shown in return.
Qur’anic Verse:
“Good and evil are not equal. Repel evil with what is best; then the one who was your enemy will become as close as an intimate friend.”
[Fussilat: 34]
One should firmly believe that all means are just tools—like the wind that moves objects. The true mover and controller is Allah ﷻ.
He is the one who creates and nurtures all. Without His permission, nothing can benefit or harm. It is He who grants benefit through certain things, and He alone protects from their harm.
Qur’anic Verse:
“If Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it but Him; and if He intends good for you, none can repel His bounty.”
[Yūnus: 107]
