❖ Alleged Ḥadīth on the Virtues of ʿAlī (رضي الله عنه)
ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنه) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever wishes to see the knowledge of Ādam (عليه السلام), the wisdom of Nūḥ (عليه السلام), and the forbearance of Ibrāhīm (عليه السلام), let him look at ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (رضي الله عنه).”
— [Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl, 6/409; also mentioned by Ibn al-Jawzī in al-Mawḍūʿāt 1/370, al-Suyūṭī in al-Laʾālīʾ 1/184, and Ibn Kathīr in al-Bidāyah wa al-Nihāyah 7/357]
❖ Chain of Narration and Critique
The chain of this narration includes Musʿar ibn Yaḥyā al-Nahdī. Regarding him:
Imām al-Dhahabī said:
“I do not know him. His narration is munkar (rejected).”
— [Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl, 6/408, Narrator No. 8391]
Musʿar ibn Yaḥyā narrates from Sharīk ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Sinān, who is described as:
- A staunch Shīʿī
- Already criticized earlier for his unreliable narrations
Sharīk in turn narrates from Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī, who:
- Is a mudallis (a narrator known for ambiguity and concealing his sources)
- Relates this report from his father, who is unknown and not recognized in hadith sciences
❖ Final Assessment
This narration clearly falls under the proverbial category:
"An unreliable narration, like a camel tied with knots—none of its legs are straight."
In other words, every link in this chain is problematic or unreliable, making the narration baseless.
