Two Meanings of ﴿وزر﴾:
The word ﴿وِزْرَ﴾ is used for a heavy burden, and its plural is "awzaar," but it is mostly used for an abstract burden, especially the burden of sin or any kind of mental burden. Here, ﴿وزر﴾ refers to that mental burden which had afflicted you even before prophethood. When youﷺ saw your people immersed in the misguidance of disbelief and polytheism and involved in various social evils, youﷺ were deeply grieved over the state of the entire society, wondering how it would be possible to reform such a corrupted society. However, no solution, method, or way was apparent. Eventually, Allah Almighty revealed to you, and youﷺ came to know clearly that the remedy for all this corruption lies in faith in Tawheed (Oneness of Allah), the Hereafter, and Prophethood. Thus, your entire mental burden was lightened, and youﷺ became certain that in this way, not only your own people but the whole world could be rescued from those evils and corruptions in which, at that time, not only the Arabs but the rest of the world was also involved.
In addition, the second meaning of ﴿وزر﴾ can also be the responsibilities of Prophethood, regarding which Allah Almighty said: ﴿اِنَّا سَنُلْقِيْ عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَـقِيْلًا﴾ [73:5]. This burden was also extremely heavy in the beginning, when a storm of opposition arose at the start of the mission. Allah Almighty granted youﷺ mountain-like resolve and removed this back-breaking burden from your mind, and youﷺ became wholeheartedly ready to fulfill your responsibilities.
