وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ﴿23﴾
And Allâh knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds),
وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah
أَعْلَمُ aʿlamu (is) most knowing
بِمَا bimā of what
يُوعُونَ yūʿūna they keep within themselves

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

23. And Allah knows well what they keep (hidden) in their hearts [18].

The Literal Meaning of ﴿وعي﴾:

The meaning of ﴿يُوْعُوْنَ﴾ ﴿وعي﴾ is to put something in a bag and then close its mouth from above. In this sense, the meaning of ﴿وعي﴾ can also be to withhold, to protect, to hide something, or to remember something. Here, this word is used in the third meaning. That is, the hatred, enmity, and malice that the disbelievers harbor in their hearts against Islam and the Muslims—Allah knows it very well.
