And He has united their (i.e. believers’) hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allâh has united them. Certainly He is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
وَأَلَّفَ wa-allafa And He (has) put affection
بَيْنَ bayna between
قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ qulūbihim their hearts
لَوْ law If

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

And He placed affection between their (the Companionsؓ) hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts [65]; but Allah united them. Surely, He is Mighty and Wise.

The Miracle of Allah’s Power: Love and Affection Among Mortal Enemy Tribes

That is, within the community of Muslims, there were individuals belonging to almost all the tribes of Arabia, and due to the tribal system in Arabia, all of them were mortal enemies of one another. Especially the Ansar tribes of Aws and Khazraj—before the arrival of the Muslims in Madinah, these two tribes were thirsty for each other’s blood and were bent on wiping each other off the face of the earth. It is solely by Allah’s grace and mercy that, in just two or three years, such love and affection was instilled in their hearts that today they have become more compassionate toward one another than even real brothers, and such a magnificent achievement could never have been accomplished by worldly means alone. Furthermore, the collective center of affection for all these Muslims was the person of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and all of this is a miracle of Allah’s power and a proof of His perfect wisdom, that He united and harmonized the Muslims in this way to crush falsehood.
