فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ﴿34﴾
But when there comes the greatest catastrophe (i.e. the Day of Recompense) -
فَإِذَا fa-idhā But when
جَآءَتِ jāati comes
ٱلطَّآمَّةُ l-ṭāmatu the Overwhelming Calamity
ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ l-kub'rā the great

34. But when the great calamity [24] comes,

[24] ﴿الطّامة﴾ ﴿الطَّمُّ﴾ means a sea filled with water and surging, and ﴿الطامه﴾ refers to such a calamity that overwhelms all other misfortunes. The word ﴿الكبريٰ﴾ has been used to further emphasize this great calamity, and by it is meant the Day of Resurrection.
