سُوْرَةُ الْاَعْرَافِ
Surah Al-A'raaf (7) — Ayah 86
وَلَا تَقْعُدُوا۟ بِكُلِّ صِرَٰطٍ تُوعِدُونَ وَتَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِهِۦ وَتَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا ۚ وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ إِذْ كُنتُمْ قَلِيلًا فَكَثَّرَكُمْ ۖ وَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ ﴿86﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
"And sit not on every road, threatening, and hindering from the Path of Allâh those who believe in Him, and seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were but few, and He multiplied you. And see what was the end of the Mufsidûn (mischief-makers, corrupters, liars).

86. And do not sit on every road, threatening and hindering those who believe in Allah from His path, seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were few, and He increased you. So see how was the end of the corrupters.

Types of Deceit and Plundering:
One meaning of this is that you should not sit on trade routes with the intention of plundering those caravans. This plundering also has several forms. One common form is like a bandit who snatches the goods of a weak person. Another is to make a deal for the goods before they reach the trade market, while the traveler is unaware of the market price; thus, deceitfully buying the goods cheaply from the traveler is also akin to plundering, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ strictly forbade this. A third form is to blackmail those traders based on your political position. The second meaning is that those who want to believe in the Prophet should not be threatened or intimidated, nor should doubts and suspicions be created in their minds to make the straight path shown by the Prophet crooked, as the opponents of the Prophets have always done such acts and plotted such schemes in every era. Thus, the polytheists of Makkah also used all such tactics to block your way.
