The Heights · Meccan · Juz 8 · Page 154

Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allâh or rejects His Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations)? For such their appointed portion (good things of this worldly life and their period of stay therein) will reach them from the Book (of Decrees) until when Our Messengers (the angel of death and his assistants) come to them to take their souls, they (the angels) will say: "Where are those whom you used to invoke and worship besides Allâh," they will reply, "They have vanished and deserted us." And they will bear witness against themselves, that they were disbelievers.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

37. Who can be more unjust than the one who invents a lie against Allah or denies His verses [36]? Such people will receive their share (in this world) as decreed for them, until, when Our messengers (angels) come to take their souls, they will ask: "Where are those (gods) whom you used to invoke besides Allah?" They will reply: "We have forgotten them." Thus, they will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers [37].

[36]
Types of Fabrication Against Allah:

In this verse, the types of people are described in terms of their acceptance of guidance: First, there are those who themselves claim false prophethood and say that revelation has come to them from Allah, or even if they do not claim prophethood, they consider themselves at that level, fabricate things themselves, and then attribute them to Allah. Then there are those who neither affirm the true messengers nor accept the verses revealed to them. All such people are the greatest wrongdoers, because they are not only misguided themselves but also take part in leading countless creatures astray. Such people will continue to receive sustenance in this world as much as is destined for them, because the trial of human beings can only take place in this way—to see who becomes obedient to the messengers and who follows Iblis and his followers.

[37]
Questioning and Answering in the Grave:

From this verse and other similar verses, it becomes clear that as soon as death arrives, such criminals come to know their fate: firstly, the horror of their evil end, and secondly, the harsh tone and conversation of the angels who seize the soul. As a result, they forget all their polytheistic acts of life. And from authentic hadiths, it is known that when questioning and answering takes place in the grave, the believer gives correct answers to all the angels’ questions, but when the disbelievers and polytheists are asked: Who is your Lord? What was your religion? And who was the Messenger? They cannot give any answer. Alas! I do not know the answer to these questions; I used to say only what people used to say (in worldly life). [بخاري۔ كتاب الصلوة، ابواب الكسوف، باب صلوة النساء مع الرجال فى الكسوف]

Once, Sayyiduna Umarؓ asked the Messenger of Allahﷺ: O Messenger of Allah! When we are questioned in the grave, will our senses and consciousness be intact at that time? The Prophetﷺ replied: “Yes.” Sayyiduna Umarؓ said, then we will be able to answer these questions. [مسلم۔ كتاب صفه الجنة و نعيمها، باب مقعد الميت من الجنة والنار]

But those who spent their lives in disbelief and polytheism and had devised many supports for their easy salvation will forget everything, and their inability to answer will itself be proof of their disbelief. In fact, they will even confess with their tongues that they spent their lives in disbelief and polytheism. [تفصيل سورة ابراهيم كے حاشيه 35 ميں ديكهيے]
