سُوْرَةُ الْحَآقَّةِ
Surah Al-Haaqqa (69) — Ayah 12
لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌ وَٰعِيَةٌ ﴿12﴾

That We might make it (Noah’s ship) an admonition for you and that it might be retained by the retaining ears.

12. So that We might make it a reminder [9] for you, and so that attentive ears [10] may retain it.

The Flood of Noah and the Ark:
That is, the state of the flood was such that so much water had accumulated that even the mountains were submerged in it. In the face of such a tremendous flood, what significance could a single ark possibly have to withstand the onslaught of the storm? Especially when those aboard did not even know in which direction their destination lay. If one were to rely on apparent means, it would seem that there was no way for the ark to survive, nor for the people aboard it. It was solely Our power and Our favor that, through this ark, We saved Our obedient servants and showed people such a manifestation of Our power and wisdom that people would remember this event for all time to come.
[10] That is, those people who, upon hearing something, do not ignore it, but rather reflect upon it, take heed from it, and then also remember it.
