Allâh sets forth an example for those who disbelieve: the wife of Nûh (Noah) and the wife of Lût (Lot). They were under two of our righteous slaves, but they both betrayed them (their husbands by rejecting their doctrine). So they [Nûh (Noah) and Lût (Lot) عليهما السلام] availed them (their respective wives) not against Allâh and it was said: "Enter the Fire along with those who enter!"

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

10. Allah sets forth the example for the disbelievers: the wives of Noah and Lot. They were married to two of Our righteous servants, but they betrayed their husbands [21], so their husbands could not avail them at all against Allah [22]. It was said to them: "Enter the Fire along with those who enter."

[21] This betrayal was neither a betrayal of wealth nor of chastity, because it is explicitly stated in the hadith that no wife of any prophet ever committed immorality. Rather, it was a betrayal of faith and its requirements. The path of the prophets was one, and the path of these wives was another. The wife of Sayyiduna Nuh was also a disbeliever and considered her husband, Sayyiduna Nuh, to be insane and would say so. The sympathies of the wife of Sayyiduna Lut were also entirely with the disbelievers instead of her husband, because she was from their people. Whenever a guest would come to the house, she would inform her neighbors.
[22] That is, neither did being the wives of prophets or living in the company of prophets benefit these women in any way, nor could the prophets save them from Allah’s punishment. The wife of Sayyiduna Nuh also drowned and died with those who were drowned, and the wife of Sayyiduna Lut was also afflicted with punishment along with her people. This was their fate in this world. In the Hereafter as well, these prophets will not be able to save their wives from Allah’s punishment. From this, it is understood that if there is no true faith in Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, then even the closest of relationships can neither benefit in this world nor in the Hereafter. Being born into a prophetic or noble lineage is not such an honor that one can rely on or be proud of. And this disease was common among the People of the Book and is also present among Muslims.
