Surah At-Taghaabun (64) — Ayah 9

يَوْمَ يَجْمَعُكُمْ لِيَوْمِ ٱلْجَمْعِ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلتَّغَابُنِ ۗ وَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ وَيَعْمَلْ صَـٰلِحًا يُكَفِّرْ عَنْهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِۦ وَيُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿9﴾
(And remember) the Day when He will gather you (all) on the Day of Gathering, - that will be the Day of mutual loss and gain (i.e. loss for the disbelievers as they will enter the Hell-fire and gain for the believers as they will enter Paradise). And whosoever believes in Allâh and performs righteous good deeds, He will expiate from him his sins, and will admit him to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) to dwell therein forever; that will be the great success.
يَوْمَ yawma (The) Day
يَجْمَعُكُمْ yajmaʿukum He will assemble you
لِيَوْمِ liyawmi for (the) Day
ٱلْجَمْعِ ۖ l-jamʿi (of) the Assembly
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika that
يَوْمُ yawmu (will be the) Day
ٱلتَّغَابُنِ ۗ l-taghābuni (of) mutual loss and gain
وَمَن waman And whoever
يُؤْمِنۢ yu'min believes
بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah
وَيَعْمَلْ wayaʿmal and does
صَـٰلِحًۭا ṣāliḥan righteous deeds
يُكَفِّرْ yukaffir He will remove
عَنْهُ ʿanhu from him
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِۦ sayyiātihi his evil deeds
وَيُدْخِلْهُ wayud'khil'hu and He will admit him
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ jannātin (to) Gardens
تَجْرِى tajrī flow
مِن min from
تَحْتِهَا taḥtihā underneath it
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ l-anhāru the rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَ khālidīna abiding
فِيهَآ fīhā therein
أَبَدًۭا ۚ abadan forever
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That
ٱلْفَوْزُ l-fawzu (is) the success
ٱلْعَظِيمُ l-ʿaẓīmu the great

On the Day He will gather you all together—the Day of Gathering, that is the Day of mutual loss and gain [17]. And whoever believes in Allah and does righteous deeds, He will remove his misdeeds from him and admit him into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide therein forever. That is the supreme success.

Literal Explanation and Meaning of ﴿تغابن﴾:

﴿تغابن﴾ is a well-known word meaning to secretly usurp someone else's right, and ﴿غبن﴾ means to secretly try to deprive each other of rights, whether those rights pertain to wealth and property or to other rights. However, the ﴿تغابن﴾ that takes place in the world and continues to happen all the time is not real; rather, its results are the opposite. For example, if Zaid usurps Bakr's right, then in this world, the apparent situation is that Zaid has benefited and Bakr has suffered a loss. But on the Day of Judgment, when Bakr's usurped right is returned to him from Zaid, then Bakr will be in profit and Zaid will be in loss. Thus, in the Hereafter, the results of profit and loss will be opposite to those in the world. In this sense, Zaid lost and Bakr won. This meaning is also supported by the hadith in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them): "Do you know who is bankrupt?" The Companions replied: "The bankrupt is the one who has no money." He ﷺ said: "Truly, the bankrupt is the one who will come on the Day of Judgment with many good deeds, but those who are owed rights will come before Allah's court and demand their rights, so his good deeds will be given to the rightful claimants until he has no good deeds left." Now, moving from individuality to collectivity. One group is that which has oppressed the Muslims and made their lives miserable. And they think that they alone are dominant and successful. These people have devoted all their abilities and capabilities, time, and wealth to the task of erasing Islam from the face of the earth. The other group is the one that is being crushed under the oppression of these tyrants, and apparently, it seems that these people are subdued and overpowered. Whereas the reality is the opposite. When, on the Day of Judgment, the results of all these people's deeds come to light, it will become clear who was at a loss and who was at a profit, who lost and who won.
