The Hypocrites · Medinan · Juz 28 · Page 555

It is equal to them whether you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) ask forgiveness or ask not forgiveness for them, Allâh will never forgive them. Verily, Allâh guides not the people who are the Fâsiqîn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

Whether you pray for their forgiveness or do not pray, it is all the same for them; Allah will never forgive them. Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people [11].

[10] For its explanation, see the footnotes of Surah At-Tawbah, verses 80 and 84, which were revealed on this occasion, when Abdullah bin Ubayy passed away.
[11] Two things are learned from this verse: First, that supplication for forgiveness can only be accepted and beneficial for those who themselves wish to walk or are walking on the path of guidance, even if the one making the supplication is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself. Second, that those who persist in disobedience to Allah are not forcibly guided by Allah onto the path of guidance.
