Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

60. He is the One who takes your souls by night (in sleep), and He knows what you have done by day. Then He raises you up therein (by day) so that a fixed term (of life) may be completed. Then to Him is your return, and He will inform you of what you used to do.

Types of Souls and Evidence for Resurrection:

There are two types of souls: one is animal, the other is spiritual or nafsani (related to the self). At night or during sleep, the nafsani soul leaves the body. Regarding this, Allah Almighty has said that He seizes it. The effect of this soul separating from the body is that a person's hearing, sight, and heart and mind stop functioning, but the animal soul remains in the body, due to which blood circulation continues in the person and he keeps breathing. After sleep is complete or when the sleeping person is awakened, the nafsani soul also returns to the body. The relationship between these two types of souls is such that if either soul ends or is seized, the other automatically ends as well, and death occurs to the person. It is as if half of death has already overtaken a sleeping person. That is why the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called sleep the sister of death. Allah Almighty has mentioned this reality in this verse, and from this reality, He has argued for another great reality, which is that just as Allah seizes your nafsani soul at night and then sends it back to your body in the morning, similarly, at the time of death, He seizes your soul, and when the Day of Resurrection is established, He will send that same soul back and raise you up from your graves.
