سُوْرَةُ الْاَنْعَامِ
Surah Al-An'aam (6) — Ayah 119
وَمَا لَكُمْ أَلَّا تَأْكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ ٱسْمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَقَدْ فَصَّلَ لَكُم مَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِلَّا مَا ٱضْطُرِرْتُمْ إِلَيْهِ ۗ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا لَّيُضِلُّونَ بِأَهْوَآئِهِم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ ﴿119﴾

And why should you not eat of that (meat) on which Allâh’s Name has been pronounced (at the time of slaughtering the animal), while He has explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you, except under compulsion of necessity? And surely many do lead (mankind) astray by their own desires through lack of knowledge. Certainly your Lord knows best the transgressors.

119. And why should you not eat of that over which Allah’s name has been mentioned, when He has clearly [123] explained to you what He has forbidden for you—except when you are compelled? And indeed, many people lead others astray by their desires without knowledge [124]. Your Lord knows well those who exceed the limits.
[123] This is probably a reference to Surah An-Nahl, verse 115, where the mention of carrion, blood, swine, and things dedicated to other than Allah is also found. Then, the same things are mentioned again in verse 145 of this Surah. Then, in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 173, and in Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 3, some further details are also given. Therefore, the footnote of Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 3, should be consulted.
[124] By these people are meant the same Jewish scholars who had taught this doctrine to the polytheists of Makkah, and they were transgressors in the sense that, firstly, they themselves were misguided and wanted to misguide others and cast them into doubts and suspicions, and secondly, because they did all this out of mischief. Otherwise, they were well aware of Allah's command.
