Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
62. So prostrate yourselves before Allah [43] and worship Him alone.
[43] The Disbelievers Also Prostrating Along with the Muslims:
This surah is among the early Makkan surahs, and it is the first surah in which a verse of prostration was revealed. Also, this is the first surah that the Prophet ﷺ recited in a public gathering, and according to some narrations, in the Haram, in a gathering of both disbelievers and Muslims. The effect of the Quran was such that when the Prophet ﷺ recited ﴿فَاسْجُدُوْالِلّٰهِوَاعْبُدُوْا﴾, the disbelievers, along with the Muslims, involuntarily fell into prostration. As is clear from the following hadith: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud ؓ says that the first surah containing a verse of prostration to be revealed was Surah An-Najm. The Prophet ﷺ performed prostration in this surah, and everyone sitting behind him (whether Muslim or polytheist) all performed prostration, except for one person, Umayyah bin Khalaf. He took a handful of soil (brought it close to his mouth) and then prostrated on it. I saw that after this, this person was killed in a state of disbelief (on the day of Badr). [بخاري، كتاب التفسير] It is also famous regarding this occasion that when the Prophet ﷺ recited these verses ﴿اَفَرَءَيْتُمُاللّٰتَوَالْعُزّٰيوَمَنٰوةَالثَّالِثَةَالْاُخْرٰي﴾, Satan, in a voice similar to the Prophet’s, added these words: ﴿تِلْكَالغَرَانِيْقُالعُلٰيوَإنَّشَفَاعَتُهُنَّلَتُرْجٰي﴾ (These are three exalted goddesses and their intercession is expected). According to some, the incident happened like this: when the Quraysh also prostrated along with the Muslims, later they realized their mistake and wondered what foolishness they had committed. Then they fabricated these words themselves and claimed that they had heard these words from the tongue of Muhammad ﷺ and thought that now he too was inclining towards their religion. That is why they prostrated along with him. Whatever this incident was, this news or rumor became so widespread that those who had migrated to Abyssinia, who had migrated in Rajab of the 5th year of Prophethood, when they heard news of such reconciliation or compromise, returned to Makkah in Shawwal of the 5th year of Prophethood. But upon arriving in Makkah, they found out that all of this was just a tale. Thus, they migrated again and returned to Abyssinia.
