His companion (Satan - devil)] will say: "Our Lord! I did not push him to transgression, (in disbelief, oppression, and evil deeds) but he was himself in error far astray."

27. And his companion [33] will say, "Our Lord! I did not make him rebellious, but he himself was deeply astray."
[33] By "this companion" is meant, most likely, that satanic companion who used to be with him in the world or was imposed upon him. He will present his defense in the Divine Court, saying that he had no such power that he could make him rebellious against You and Your Messenger. All that happened was that he cast a whisper into his heart, and he was already a criminal at heart. He immediately responded to his call. The satanic whisper was as if it were the voice of his own heart. Therefore, he himself kept advancing in the works of misguidance.
