Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
The Messiah [‘Îsâ (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary), was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother [Maryam (Mary)] was a Siddîqah [i.e. she believed in the Words of Allâh and His Books (see Verse 66:12)]. They both used to eat food (as any other human being, while Allâh does not eat). Look how We make the Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to them; yet look how they are deluded away (from the truth).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a messenger; messengers had passed away before him. And his mother was a woman of truth. They both used to eat food. See how We make the signs clear to them, then see how they are deluded.
[121] In this verse, Allah the Exalted has presented three clear arguments in refutation of the divinity of ‘Isa (peace be upon him), which are as follows: (1) Arguments in Refutation of the Divinity of ‘Isa:
‘Isa (peace be upon him) was a Messenger of Allah, not Allah Himself. It is impossible for one and the same being to be both Allah and the Messenger of Allah. Furthermore, many messengers like him had passed before him, which means that he came after those messengers—in other words, he was created and not eternal, whereas the Being of Allah is eternal, pre-existent, everlasting, and beyond the events of time or its changes. Therefore, anything or any being that is created cannot be a god or Allah.
(2) Four Arguments in Refutation of the Divinity of the Messiah and the Mother of the Messiah:
The second argument is that his mother was righteous. From this, firstly, it is clear that the Jews who accuse her of adultery are liars and slanderers, and secondly, that ‘Isa (peace be upon him) also had a mother who gave birth to him. He was born from her womb; his mother experienced the same labor pains as ordinary women do, and ‘Isa (peace be upon him) was born from his mother’s womb in the same natural and customary way as ordinary humans are born. Therefore, neither ‘Isa (peace be upon him) nor his mother can be divine, because such things are not befitting for Allah.
(3) The third argument is that both of them used to eat food, meaning they were dependent on food to sustain and maintain their lives, and whoever is dependent cannot be a god or Allah, because Allah is free from all kinds of needs. Then, whoever eats food, from within him comes out excrement, urine, and foul air—such waste and impurities that require purification. Furthermore, if this food remains inside a person or causes some other problem, the person becomes ill and distressed until such ailments are treated. Therefore, whoever eats food cannot be Allah or a god. In this respect as well, the belief in the divinity of Sayyiduna ‘Isa and his mother is proven false. Despite these simple and obvious matters, if these people still consider Sayyiduna ‘Isa to be divine, then it can only be said that their intellect has failed them. It should be noted that when the doctrine of the Trinity was formulated, its three pillars, or in the Christian technical language, three hypostases, were the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But after some time, the Holy Spirit was excluded and Mary was included in its place, so according to the new doctrine of the Trinity, its three hypostases became the Father, the Son, and the Mother.
