And if only the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) had believed (in Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and warded off evil (sin, ascribing partners to Allâh) and had become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - See V.2:2) We would indeed have expiated from them their sins and admitted them to Gardens of pleasure (in Paradise).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

65. If only the People of the Book had believed and been mindful of Allah [110], We would have surely removed their sins from them and admitted them into Gardens of bliss.

[110] That is, their well-being was in the fact that they should have abandoned such mischief and acts that cause turmoil and corruption, and embraced faith; then they would have received a double reward, as mentioned in the hadith: "Whoever from the People of the Book believes will receive a double reward—one for believing in his own prophet and book, and the second for believing in me and the Quran."
