Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Verily, those who have turned back (have apostatised) as disbelievers after the guidance has been manifested to them - Shaitân (Satan) has beautified for them (their false hopes), and (Allâh) prolonged their term (age).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
25. Those to whom guidance became clear, then they turned back thereafter—Satan made their deeds seem fair to them and gave them false hopes [29] (of long life).
[29] That is, Satan has instilled in them the notion that if you participate in jihad, it is tantamount to inviting your own death. Besides this, there will also be financial loss. Then, even if the Muslims achieve victory, what benefit will there be for them in the event of death? Therefore, the only sure way to avoid financial loss, to keep oneself safe, and to live a long life is to adopt the path of avoiding jihad.
