Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
In front of them there is Hell. And that which they have earned will be of no profit to them, nor (will be of any profit to them) those whom they have taken as Auliyâ’ (protectors, helpers) besides Allâh. And theirs will be a great torment.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
Then after that [11], for them is Hell, and whatever they earned in the world will not benefit them at all, nor those whom they took as protectors [13] besides Allah. And for them is a severe punishment.
[11] The Literal Meaning of ﴿وراء﴾:
The meaning of ﴿ورآء﴾ is both ahead and behind, here and there. In this sense, it has two meanings. One is that such people will have a humiliating punishment in this world, and after that, the punishment of Hell is also prepared for them. The second meaning is that they do not even know that after this humiliating punishment, Hell is also pursuing them from behind. [12] That is, neither wealth and property will benefit, nor offspring, nor their good deeds. Because even if they performed some good deeds in the world, they will be wasted and will not benefit them at all. The reason is that they did not perform those deeds with the intention that they would benefit them in the Hereafter; rather, they did not even believe in the Hereafter. [13] Types of Protectors:
These awliya (protectors) are also of two types. One type is those personalities upon whose intercession people rely and, without hesitation, continue to commit sinful acts, thinking that since they have pledged allegiance to such-and-such person, he will intercede for them and save them from Allah's grasp and punishment. The second type is those chieftain-like people, rulers, or political leaders whose commands are obeyed in opposition to Allah's commands because the worldly interests of the followers are attached to them. None of these protectors will be of any help there.
