وَلَوْلَآ أَن يَكُونَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً لَّجَعَلْنَا لِمَن يَكْفُرُ بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ لِبُيُوتِهِمْ سُقُفًا مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيْهَا يَظْهَرُونَ ﴿33﴾
And were it not that mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Gracious (Allâh), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators whereby they ascend,
وَلَوْلَآ walawlā And if not
أَن an that
يَكُونَ yakūna (would) become
ٱلنَّاسُ l-nāsu [the] mankind
أُمَّةًۭ ummatan a community
وَٰحِدَةًۭ wāḥidatan one
لَّجَعَلْنَا lajaʿalnā We (would have) made
لِمَن liman for (one) who
يَكْفُرُ yakfuru disbelieves
بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ bil-raḥmāni in the Most Gracious
لِبُيُوتِهِمْ libuyūtihim for their houses
سُقُفًۭا suqufan roofs
مِّن min of
فِضَّةٍۢ fiḍḍatin silver
وَمَعَارِجَ wamaʿārija and stairways
عَلَيْهَا ʿalayhā upon which
يَظْهَرُونَ yaẓharūna they mount
