سُوْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ
Surah Ghafir (40) — Ayah 81
وَيُرِيكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ فَأَىَّ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ تُنكِرُونَ ﴿81﴾

And He shows you His Ayât (signs and proofs) (of His Oneness in all the above-mentioned things). Which, then of the Ayât (signs and proofs) of Allâh do you deny?

81. Allah shows you His signs; so which of Allah’s signs will you deny [101]?

Who Placed the Instinct of Servitude in Livestock for Humans, and the Benefits Humans Derive from Livestock:
The disbelievers of Makkah used to demand various tangible miracles from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. One answer to this was given in the previous verse, that presenting such a miracle is not within the power of any messenger. In these verses, a second answer to the same demand of the disbelievers is given: the signs of Allah can be found all around you—on your right and left, above and below, inside and outside, everywhere. If you reflect, you will find guidance in them as well to accept the straight path. For example, just look at the livestock you keep. We have created their structure and nature in such a way that they immediately become subservient to you. Then you derive thousands of kinds of benefits from them. From their milk, you make cream, butter, cheese, ghee, and buttermilk. And these things are an extremely important part of your body. Then you ride on them. They carry your heavy loads. They plow your fields. They draw water from wells. You make them do all the laborious tasks. Then you slaughter them and eat their meat. From their hair, you make your clothing. And after their death, you even use their bones, teeth, and skins for your needs. Who placed this instinct of servitude in this livestock for humans? Who is the one who took care of your needs to such an extent even before your birth? Why should those who are ungrateful for Allah’s blessings not be held accountable: Now look at the other side. Three-fourths of the earth is covered with water or seas. Only one-fourth is dry land, on which you and all your livestock live. For such a small portion of dry land, why did Allah create such a vast reservoir of water? Have you ever reflected on this sign of Allah? Then He made water and winds subject to such natural laws that you became capable of sailing boats and ships in rivers and seas. If Allah were to change their natural laws—and He is the Creator of everything and can alter them as He wills—would you be able to sail ships? Or even live on this earth? Then also consider: will the Wise Lord, who has placed so many countless things at your disposal, leave man with so much authority just like that, and never take account from him for these blessings? And will He not ask whether the Merciful Lord, who took such care of all your needs and continued to send down His mercies, was appreciated by man? Did he thank Him? Or did he prove to be treacherous and ungrateful, and began to offer his devotion before others instead of Allah?
