Then fight (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in the Cause of Allâh, you are not tasked (held responsible) except for yourself, and incite the believers (to fight along with you), it may be that Allâh will restrain the evil might of the disbelievers. And Allâh is Stronger in Might and Stronger in punishing.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

So fight in the way of Allah; you are not responsible except for yourself [117]. And encourage the believers. It may be that Allah will restrain the might of those who disbelieve. And Allah is stronger in might and more severe in punishment.

[117] That is, if you are always ready to fight in the way of Allah and continue to encourage the Muslims as well, then surely the Muslims will join you and become determined for jihad. The effect of this will be that the enemy, seeing your movements and activities, will refrain from the intention of fighting on their own. And if this does not happen and they resolve to attack, then Allah is capable of dealing with them and can punish them severely (as actually happened in the Battle of the Trench). In any case, you should always be prepared for jihad.
