سُوْرَةُ النِّسَآءِ
Surah An-Nisaa (4) — Ayah 60
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُمْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَحَاكَمُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَقَدْ أُمِرُوٓا۟ أَن يَكْفُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَيُرِيدُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَن يُضِلَّهُمْ ضَلَـٰلًۢا بَعِيدًا ﴿60﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Have you not seen those (hypocrites) who claim that they believe in that which has been sent down to you, and that which was sent down before you, and they wish to go for judgement (in their disputes) to the Tâghût (false judges) while they have been ordered to reject them. But Shaitân (Satan) wishes to lead them far astray.

60. (O Prophet!) Have you not seen those who claim that they believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you, yet they wish to take their disputes to the Taghut [92] for judgment, even though they were commanded to reject it? But Satan wishes to lead them far astray.

The Hypocrites' Evasion of Bringing Their Cases to You:
Those who outwardly claim to be Muslims but are in reality hypocrites—and the meaning of "Taghut" has already been explained earlier, that it refers to any individual, court, institution, or system that seeks to impose its own authority over people in opposition to the command of Allah. The way of the hypocrites was that in cases where they expected the decision to be in their favor, they would bring it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but in cases where they feared the decision would be against them, they would hesitate to bring it to you, even to the extent of outright refusal. This is exactly the condition of so-called Muslims today. If the decision of the Shariah is in their favor, they accept it wholeheartedly, but otherwise, they seek refuge in any law, custom, or court from which they expect a decision according to their own desires—and this is, in fact, a sign of hypocrisy.
