And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Qur’ân) that when you hear the Verses of Allâh being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allâh will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

140. Allah has already revealed to you in the Book [186] that when you hear the verses of Allah being denied and mocked at, do not sit with them until they engage in some other conversation; otherwise, you would surely be like them. Surely, Allah will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers together in Hell.

[186] This command was revealed in Makkah in Surah Al-An'am, verse number 68, which was: "And when you see those who engage in (blasphemous) discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they engage in a different topic. And if Satan causes you to forget, then do not sit after the remembrance with the wrongdoing people." That is, those who sit in gatherings where the verses of Allah are openly mocked and ridiculed, or outright denied, and they listen to such things with indifference and remain seated there, and their sense of faith is not stirred in the least, then there remains no difference between them and those disbelievers. In such a situation, it is necessary for a Muslim to express his displeasure, silence their tongues, and if he can convince them of the truth with arguments, he must do so. And if he cannot do either of these, then at the very least, he should get up and leave from there. Thus, the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever among you sees an evil (un-Islamic) act, he should change it with his hand; and if he cannot do so, then with his tongue; and if he cannot do even that, then at least he should consider it evil in his heart, and that is the weakest level of faith."
[مسلم، کتاب الایمان، باب کون النہی عن المنکر من الایمان]
And in another narration, it is stated that if he does not even consider it evil in his heart, then know that he does not possess even a mustard seed's worth of faith. It should be clear that Surah Al-An'am was revealed in Makkah, and those who mocked the verses of Allah there were the disbelievers of Makkah, while this Surah An-Nisa was revealed in Madinah, where those who mocked the verses of Allah were the Jews of Madinah and the hypocrites. Thus, mocking the messengers of Allah and the verses of Allah has always been the old practice of all kinds of disbelievers.
