And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups till, when they reach it, the gates thereof will be opened (suddenly like a prison at the arrival of the prisoners). And its keepers will say, "Did not the Messengers come to you from yourselves, reciting to you the Verses of your Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say: "Yes, but the Word of torment has been justified against the disbelievers!"

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

71. And those who disbelieved will be driven in groups towards Hell [90], until when they reach it, its gates will be opened, and its keepers will say to them, "Did there not come to you messengers from among yourselves, reciting to you the verses of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours [91]?" They will say, "Yes, indeed," but the word of punishment has come into effect upon the disbelievers.

[90] This is because there are dozens of types of disbelief. And accordingly, on the Day of Resurrection, these disbelievers will be grouped. And after grouping them, they will be driven towards Hell. Just as those criminals who, after the court's verdict, are proven to be truly guilty, are shackled and taken towards the prison, and just as when these criminals reach the prison, the gate of the prison is opened for them, in the same way, when the groups of disbelievers reach Hell, the gates of Hell will be opened for them.

[91]
The Keepers of Hell and Their Question:

When these groups reach Hell, the keepers or superintendents of Hell will, as a form of reproach, ask them: "O wretches! Did not Allah's messengers come to you to warn you or to make you aware of the circumstances of this day?" The criminals will reply: "They did come, but due to our misfortune and incompetence, we did not consider them truthful, and as a result, today we have ended up here. And it seems that we are bound to receive the punishment for our deeds."
