Surah Saad (38) — Ayah 39
هَـٰذَا عَطَآؤُنَا فَٱمْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ ﴿39﴾

[Allâh said to Sulaimân (Solomon)]: "This is Our gift: so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked (of you)."

39. (We said,) "This is Our gift, so give freely or withhold, without account [45]."

The Dominion of Sayyiduna Sulaiman Over the Jinn:
That is, in the matter of the jinn, you had complete authority—whether to employ someone or not, whether to give compensation or not, whether to give little or much compensation. All of this depended on your discretion. And if this verse is understood in a general sense, it would mean that We granted you immense wealth and riches, and told you to spend it as you wish; you will not be held accountable for it. Now, on one hand, the favors of Allah were such that He gave boundless wealth and said, "Spend as you wish, you will not be questioned about it." On the other hand, the state of Sayyiduna Sulaimanؑ was such that he would not take even a single coin from the public treasury for his personal needs; rather, like his noble father, he would eat from his own earnings. Sayyiduna Dawudؑ used to make armor, and he used to manufacture copper goods.
