They will say: "Woe to us! Who has raised us up from our place of sleep." (It will be said to them): "This is what the Most Gracious (Allâh) had promised, and the Messengers spoke truth!"

They will say, "Woe to us! Who has raised us from our sleeping place [49]?" (It will be said,) "This is what the Most Merciful [50] had promised, and the messengers spoke the truth."
[49] The Effect of the Second Blowing of the Trumpet:
With the first blowing of the Trumpet, all people will fall unconscious, and in that state of unconsciousness, their death will occur. Then, when the Trumpet is blown a second time, they will rise from their graves. At that moment, they will not know what incident has occurred and where they are standing. It is like when a person has an accident with a bus and falls unconscious, and is taken to the hospital. Then, when he regains consciousness after some time and opens his eyes, he sees: Where am I right now, and how did I get here? He has no knowledge of his unconsciousness. This will be the same condition for those people. Seeing a completely unfamiliar and terrifying environment, the first thing they will say is: We were lying peacefully asleep; who woke us up? They will have no recollection in their minds of anything before their death, nor of the punishment of the grave. Compared to the horrors of the Day of Resurrection, they will consider even that to have been just a dream.
[50] One aspect of this statement is that when they try to understand this environment by exerting their minds, they will themselves realize that this is exactly what the messengers used to tell us, and we used to deny it. And the second aspect is that, in this state of confusion, the believers or the angels will inform them that this is the very day which Allah had promised you, and whenever the messengers used to warn you of Allah’s promise and of this Day of Resurrection, every time you would say: When will that be? So today, see that day with your own eyes.
