سُوْرَةُ فَاطِرٍ
Surah Faatir (35) — Ayah 13
يُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ كُلٌّ يَجْرِى لِأَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ لَهُ ٱلْمُلْكُ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِن قِطْمِيرٍ ﴿13﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
He merges the night into the day (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the night is added to the hours of the day), and He merges the day into the night (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the day is added to the hours of the night). And He has subjected the sun and the moon: each runs its course for a term appointed. Such is Allâh, your Lord; His is the kingdom. And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmîr (the thin membrane over the date-stone).

He merges the night into the day and the day into the night [19], and He has subjected the sun and the moon, each running for an appointed term. That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs the dominion. And those whom you call upon besides Him do not possess even a piece of straw.

Gradual System of Day and Night:
That is, when the sun is about to rise, first a line of light appears on the sky; this is the beginning of the day. Then this light starts to spread, and everything becomes visible. Then, when the sun rises, the light increases even more, and until noon its brightness continues to grow, and heat and intensity keep increasing. Then, when the time of decline begins, in the same gradual manner, the heat and light start to decrease. Until, after some time following sunset, the light disappears, and in its place darkness increases. And all of this happens so slowly and gradually that it seems as if night is being wrapped over day and day over night. Night and day both gradually enter into each other, and in this coming and going of night and day, the sun has a major role. At night, in place of the sun, the moon provides light to the inhabitants of the earth. If Allah Almighty had not created this system of night and day, then nothing could remain alive, nor could any vegetation, etc., grow. And this system of the universe will continue in this way until the Day of Judgment. And when its arrangement is folded up, that is called the Day of Judgment. All these feats are of the True Lord, so He alone is truly worthy of worship. Now tell me, what beneficial things have your deities created for you? And if the answer to this question is in the negative, then from where did they get authority and control in this universe?
