[12] Rational Proof of Life After Death. The Self or Soul Will Not Perish:
This is a complete answer to the objection of the disbelievers, that is, the disbelievers who say that when "we" are mixed with the dust, then where does the concept of "we" come from? It is clear that the word "we" or "you" cannot be applied to a mere collection of flesh and bones. And after death, the flesh and bones do indeed mix with the dust. But this "we" or "you" cannot mix with the dust. This is the very thing that We breathed into you. Because of which you call yourselves "we" or "you." And this very thing or soul is taken into possession by the angel appointed by Us at the time of your death. Now your soul has returned to Us. The elements of the earth from which you were first created, from those very elements you can be created again. In fact, you can be created with even greater ease. And your soul, which is in Our possession, We will again place it into your bodies made from dust and present you before Us. At that time too, the same "we" will be present in you as is present today. And it is from this very "we" that your deeds will be questioned. It should be clear that here, by "soul" is not meant the animal soul, which is the cause of movement in every living being. Rather, here by "soul" is meant the human soul, by virtue of which man is distinguished from all other animals. He was granted intellect and consciousness, and by giving him will and choice, he was made the vicegerent of the earth.
