Say: "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Why do you stop those who have believed, from the Path of Allâh, seeking to make it seem crooked, while you (yourselves) are witnesses [to Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم as a Messenger of Allâh and Islâm (Allâh’s religion, i.e. to worship none but Him Alone)]? And Allâh is not unaware of what you do."

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

Say: O People of the Book! Why do you hinder those who believe from the path of Allah [88], seeking to make it crooked, while you yourselves are witnesses (to the truth)? And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

[88] One method of the Jews' enmity towards Islam was that whenever someone was about to become Muslim, they would immerse him in various doubts and suspicions. The first thing they would instill in his mind was that the Prophet of the Last Age, whose glad tidings are given in our books, is not this Prophet. If he were that very Prophet, then why would he change the Qiblah, which has been the Qiblah of all the Prophets, or why would he make things lawful that are forbidden? Because they would consider their own incorrect issues as the fundamental basis, they would make every possible effort to turn those who were becoming Muslim away from Islam. In this verse, Allah Almighty has taken them to task for such actions.
