وَمَآ أَصَـٰبَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْتَقَى ٱلْجَمْعَانِ فَبِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿166﴾
And what you suffered (of the disaster) on the day (of the battle of Uhud when) the two armies met, was by the leave of Allâh, in order that He might test the believers.
وَمَآ wamā And what
أَصَـٰبَكُمْ aṣābakum struck you
يَوْمَ yawma (on the) day
ٱلْتَقَى l-taqā (when) met
ٱلْجَمْعَانِ l-jamʿāni the two hosts
فَبِإِذْنِ fabi-idh'ni (was) by (the) permission
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah
وَلِيَعْلَمَ waliyaʿlama and that He (might) make evident
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ l-mu'minīna the believers
