Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

Fair-minded People Among the People of the Book:

Previously, Allah Almighty had stated that the majority of the People of the Book persisted in sin and immorality. In this verse, it is being stated that not all of them are bad. Among them, there are also some good people who have embraced faith. For example, Abdullah bin Salamؓ and his companions, or Najashi, the King of Abyssinia, etc., and they possess all those virtues that are found in righteous Muslims. Abdullah bin Salamؓ was among the distinguished scholars of the Jews. But instead of being self-interested and ambitious for status, he was a seeker of truth.

Introduction of Abdullah bin Salam and His Acceptance of Islam:

When youﷺ migrated to Madinah and Abdullah bin Salamؓ saw in youﷺ those signs which had been described in the Torah regarding the Last Prophet, he immediately presented himself in your blessed presence and, after asking a few questions, embraced Islam. Then it was he who informed the Messenger of Allahﷺ about the nature of the Jews. Consequently, the Jews became his enemies. Then, when in a case of adultery, the Jews tried to conceal the verse of stoning from the Torah, it was Abdullah bin Salamؓ who pointed out this verse, causing the Jews to be ashamed and disgraced. Abdullah bin Salamؓ had seen a dream, the interpretation of which the Messenger of Allahﷺ explained as meaning that Abdullah bin Salamؓ would remain steadfast on Islam until his last breath. Thus, some Companionsؓ used to call him a person of Paradise.

The Character of Najashi, King of Abyssinia, and His Acceptance of Islam:

Najashi, the King of Abyssinia, whose name was Ashamah, gave full support to the Muslims when they migrated to Abyssinia, and a delegation of the Quraysh of Makkah came to the King of Abyssinia to bring them back. The King of Abyssinia not only refused to return the Muslims and gave them refuge, but also openly acknowledged that the beliefs of the Muslims regarding Jesus and Mary were absolutely correct and in complete accordance with the teachings of Jesusؑ, and then treated the Muslims in the best possible manner. Although there is no detailed account of his formal acceptance of Islam, when he passed away, the Prophetﷺ informed the Muslims of his death and said, "Offer the funeral prayer for your Muslim brother." Thus, his funeral prayer in absentia was performed. [بخاري۔ كتاب الجنائز، باب الصفوف على الجنازة۔۔۔ ] From this, it is known that he had indeed embraced Islam.
