أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا جَعَلْنَا حَرَمًا ءَامِنًا وَيُتَخَطَّفُ ٱلنَّاسُ مِنْ حَوْلِهِمْ ۚ أَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ يَكْفُرُونَ ﴿67﴾
Have they not seen that We have made (Makkah) a secure sanctuary, while men are being snatched away from all around them? Then do they believe in Bâtil (falsehood - polytheism, idols and all deities other than Allâh), and deny (become ingrate for) the Graces of Allâh?
أَوَلَمْ awalam Do not
يَرَوْا۟ yaraw they see
أَنَّا annā that We
جَعَلْنَا jaʿalnā have made
حَرَمًا ḥaraman a Sanctuary
ءَامِنًۭا āminan secure
وَيُتَخَطَّفُ wayutakhaṭṭafu while are being taken away
ٱلنَّاسُ l-nāsu the people
مِنْ min around them
حَوْلِهِمْ ۚ ḥawlihim around them
أَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ afabil-bāṭili Then do in (the) falsehood
يُؤْمِنُونَ yu'minūna they believe
وَبِنِعْمَةِ wabiniʿ'mati and in (the) Favor
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah
يَكْفُرُونَ yakfurūna they disbelieve

Do they not see that We have made the Sacred Sanctuary [99] secure, while people are being snatched away all around them? Then do they believe in falsehood and deny the blessings of Allah?

The Benefits the Quraysh of Makkah Received Due to the Sanctuary of Makkah:

Allah Almighty alone made Makkah and its surroundings a sanctuary, and for two and a half thousand years these people have been benefiting from the advantages of this peaceful sanctuary, living a secure and peaceful life, safe from the plundering of the Arab tribes. Because of this, they also enjoy political authority throughout Arabia. Provisions reach them from distant places, and they gain many commercial benefits as well. No idol—Lat, Manat, Hubal, or any other—had the power to make this land a peaceful sanctuary. The demand of this blessing from Allah was that these people should have shown gratitude to Allah and lived as His obedient servants. But instead of showing gratitude to Allah, they were associating other deities as partners with Him.
