Surah Al-Ankaboot (29) — Ayah 61

The Spider · Meccan · Juz 21 · Page 403

And if you were to ask them: "Who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon?" they will surely reply: "Allâh." How then are they deviating (as polytheists and disbelievers)?
وَلَئِن wala-in And if
سَأَلْتَهُم sa-altahum you ask them
مَّنْ man Who
خَلَقَ khalaqa created
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ wal-arḍa and the earth
وَسَخَّرَ wasakhara and subjected
ٱلشَّمْسَ l-shamsa the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرَ wal-qamara and the moon
لَيَقُولُنَّ layaqūlunna Surely they would say
ٱللَّهُ ۖ l-lahu Allah
فَأَنَّىٰ fa-annā Then how
يُؤْفَكُونَ yu'fakūna are they deluded

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

61. If you ask them, "Who created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon?" they will surely say, "Allah." Then [93] how are they deluded?

[93] This address is not only for the Muhajireen (the Emigrants); rather, everyone is included in this address. The meaning is that Allah is the One who created the heavens and the earth, the sun and the moon, and set each to its respective task. All of mankind’s necessities of life are connected to this system. Among these necessities is the need for food and drink and the means of livelihood. So wherever Muslims migrate, this entire system will be present there as well, and Allah will provide you with sustenance there just as He does here; therefore, place your trust in Him. And if this address is understood as being directed toward the polytheists of Makkah, then its meaning would be: all the provisions for your life and its continuation have been provided by Allah. Then how can you set up your deities as partners and rivals to Allah? From where does such a reversal of reason come upon you?
