And they belied him [Shu‘aib]: so the earthquake seized them, and they lay (dead), prostrate in their dwellings.

37. But they denied Shu‘aib [57], so a severe earthquake seized them, and they lay lifeless in their homes, facedown.
[57] That is, they denied the prophethood of Shu‘ayb (peace be upon him), his message, and also the warning that if you do not desist from your evil deeds, Allah’s punishment will come upon you.
