فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دَارِهِمْ جَـٰثِمِينَ ﴿37﴾
And they belied him [Shu‘aib]: so the earthquake seized them, and they lay (dead), prostrate in their dwellings.
فَكَذَّبُوهُ fakadhabūhu But they denied him
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ fa-akhadhathumu so seized them
ٱلرَّجْفَةُ l-rajfatu the earthquake
فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ fa-aṣbaḥū and they became
فِى in
دَارِهِمْ dārihim their home
جَـٰثِمِينَ jāthimīna fallen prone

37. But they denied Shu‘aib [57], so a severe earthquake seized them, and they lay lifeless in their homes, facedown.

[57] That is, they denied the prophethood of Shu‘ayb (peace be upon him), his message, and also the warning that if you do not desist from your evil deeds, Allah’s punishment will come upon you.
