And those who had desired (for a position like) his position the day before, began to say: "Know you not that it is Allâh Who enlarges the provision or restricts it to whomsoever He pleases of His slaves. Had it not been that Allâh was Gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up (also)! Know you not that the disbelievers will never be successful.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

82. And those who had wished for his position the day before began to say, "Alas! Allah enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts it. Had Allah not been gracious to us, He would have caused us to be swallowed up too. Alas! The disbelievers never prosper."

[111] Seeing the fate of Qarun, the eyes of those who were enamored with the world were opened, those who just yesterday thought how fortunate a man Qarun was. And the reality became clear to them that it is not necessary that the one who possesses abundance of wealth and riches is also favored by Allah. If that were the case, Qarun would never have been a victim of Allah's punishment. And they also realized that when Allah's punishment comes, no matter how much wealth and riches one has, it is of no use. Rather, often this very wealth and riches become the cause of bringing down Allah's punishment. Therefore, the standard of a person's good fortune can never be wealth and riches. The increase or decrease of sustenance is one thing, and a person's success and good fortune is another. And it is good that despite our desires, Allah did not grant us abundance of wealth and riches, otherwise our fate would have been the same as that of Qarun.
