وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ هُوَ وَجُنُودُهُۥ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا يُرْجَعُونَ ﴿39﴾
And he and his hosts were arrogant in the land, without right, and they thought that they would never return to Us.
وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ wa-is'takbara And he was arrogant
هُوَ huwa And he was arrogant
وَجُنُودُهُۥ wajunūduhu and his hosts
فِى in
ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the land
بِغَيْرِ bighayri without
ٱلْحَقِّ l-ḥaqi right
وَظَنُّوٓا۟ waẓannū and they thought
أَنَّهُمْ annahum that they
إِلَيْنَا ilaynā to Us
لَا not
يُرْجَعُونَ yur'jaʿūna will be returned

And Pharaoh and his armies behaved arrogantly in the land without right, and they thought they would not be returned to Us.

[51] Allah granted them power over a small portion of the earth for a few days, so they began to think that there was no being above them who could take this power away from them. Nor did it ever occur to them that after death, they would have to present themselves before Allah and be questioned about every single deed.
