Then, when Mûsâ (Moses) had fulfilled the term, and was travelling with his family, he saw a fire in the direction of Tûr (Mount). He said to his family: "Wait, I have seen a fire; perhaps I may bring you from there some information, or a burning fire-brand that you may warm yourselves."

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

29. Then, when Moses had completed the term and set out with his family [39], he noticed a fire on the side of Mount Tur. He said to his family, "Stay here; I have seen a fire. Perhaps I can bring you some news from there, or a burning ember [39.1] from the fire so that you may warm yourselves."

Departure to His Homeland After Ten Years:

After this agreement, Prophet Shu‘aib ؑ married his daughter to Prophet Musa ؑ. And he began to live a married life there. It is said that the name of the girl whom he married was Safura. After marriage, instead of staying for eight years, he actually stayed there for ten years. Then, with the intention of returning to his native homeland Egypt, he set out from Madyan along with his family. On one hand, he was eager to meet his parents and siblings. On the other hand, he was also thinking that perhaps by now people had forgotten about the incident of the murder, so he considered it appropriate to return to his homeland.

Sayyiduna Musa Losing His Way:

On the way, when he reached the foothills of Mount Sinai, he lost his way due to the darkness of the night. It was winter, the night was extremely cold, and his children were with him. He became very worried. In such a situation, there was no one to show the way. Finally, he saw a fire from a distance, which he considered a blessing and thought that surely there must be someone kindling the fire there. Therefore, he said to his family, “You stay here. I will go near that fire. If someone shows me the way, well and good, otherwise I will bring some burning embers so that you all can warm yourselves.” (This entire incident has already been mentioned in detail in Surah Ta Ha.)
