Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Till, when they come (before their Lord at the place of reckoning), He will say: "Did you deny My Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) whereas you comprehended them not by knowledge (of their truth or falsehood), or what (else) was it that you used to do?"

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
84. Until, when they all come together, Allah will ask them: "Did you deny My signs even though you did not encompass them with knowledge [88]? (If not this, then) what was it that you were doing [89]?"
[88] A person denies whatever he does not understand: In this verse, a scene from the Day of Resurrection is presented. The criminals will be divided into separate groups according to their crimes. For example, there will be a separate group for the polytheists, a separate one for the disbelievers, a separate one for the hypocrites, and some commentators have taken this to mean that the deniers will be driven towards the Gathering, and they will be so numerous that those walking behind will be stopped from moving forward. This is as is done to maintain order in a large crowd. The basic meaning of ﴿وزع﴾ is simply to stop or to hold back. Therefore, both interpretations are possible within its meaning.
[89] That is, you had no reasonable cause or argument for denying My verses. Except that those things were beyond your knowledge or understanding. Instead of pondering and trying to understand them, you outright denied them. It became your habit to reject Allah’s verses without any thought or reflection. If this is not the case, then tell Me, what else did you do? Can you prove that after investigation you found these verses to be false? And that you had acquired certain knowledge that what is mentioned in these verses is not correct?
