The Punishment of Killing Boys for the Faith of the Children of Israel:
Many incidents have been omitted at this point. It is also not fully known whether Pharaoh threatened to crucify those magicians for certain reasons or actually did so. The prevailing assumption is that he certainly did this. The reason is that when the followers of falsehood are defeated in the field of arguments, they resort to violence and lowly tactics. Yet even then, their anger is not appeased. Because sometimes the results of such oppression turn out contrary to expectations, and the more one tries to suppress something with force, the more strongly it emerges and strengthens its roots. The same happened in Egypt. Countless Israelites believed in Prophet Musa ؑ, so the present Pharaoh prescribed the same punishment for the Israelites as his father had: that all newborn boys of the Children of Israel should be killed and the girls should be allowed to live, and thus their lineage should gradually be wiped out. This was Pharaoh’s plan, but Allah intended something else. In addition, a few people from Pharaoh’s own nation secretly believed in Prophet Musa ؑ.
The Migration of the Children of Israel Towards Syria:
When Pharaoh’s oppression reached its limit, Allah revealed to Prophet Musa ؑ, commanding him to migrate from the land of Egypt towards the land of Syria, taking the Children of Israel with him and leaving secretly by night in the utmost secrecy. And to exercise full caution, and when the journey begins, to try to cross out of the land of Egypt as quickly as possible, for Pharaoh would surely pursue them. It should not happen that he catches up with you while you are still within Egypt. When Pharaoh learned of the departure of Musa ؑ and the Children of Israel, he became greatly agitated. All his plans were being ruined. He ordered the preparation of a massive army and said to his courtiers: “This is just a handful of weak people, and by choosing the path of escape, they have unnecessarily provoked our anger. Therefore, we should immediately pursue them and bring them to justice. What significance do these poor people have in comparison to our armed and mighty army?”
