The Poets · Meccan · Juz 19 · Page 375

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ ﴿204﴾
Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on?
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا afabiʿadhābinā So is it for Our punishment
يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ yastaʿjilūna they wish to hasten

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

204. Are they asking for Our punishment [120] to be hastened?

[120] That is, today they have been given respite, so they demand punishment. Then when they see the punishment, at that time they will demand respite. However, neither their first demand was correct nor will the second one be correct, because there is a set rule for Allah's punishment; it does not depend on anyone's demand or lack thereof. Then, when the appointed time for punishment comes, there can be no delay in it, nor can anyone be granted further respite upon request.
