Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Thus they (false gods - all deities other than Allâh) will belie you (polytheists) regarding what you say (that they are gods besides Allâh): then you can neither avert (the punishment), nor get help. And whoever among you does wrong (i.e. sets up rivals to Allâh), We shall make him taste a great torment.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
19. So (O disbelievers), what you say today, your gods will deny you on that Day. Then you will neither be able to avert (the punishment) nor will you find any help. And whoever among you does wrong [24], We will make him taste a severe punishment.
[23] That is, today you say that even if the Day of Resurrection occurs, your deities will benefit you there as well, and if there is any matter of punishment, they will rescue you. But on that day, these very deities upon whose help you relied will openly declare their disassociation from you. And by saying this, they will deny you, "When did we ever tell them to worship us?" In this way, the deities will be absolved of responsibility, and the entire burden will fall upon their worshippers, for whom there will be no way of deliverance from the punishment.
[24] The Literal Meaning of Zulm (Injustice):
The word "zulm" is the opposite of justice, and it can be applied to any act of injustice or unreasonable behavior. Denying the message of the Prophet, preventing people from the path of Islam, causing harm to the believers, troubling them, or mocking them, worshipping idols or other deities, calling upon them for needs, denying the reward and punishment of the Hereafter—all these are forms of zulm, and those who commit these acts are all zalim (oppressors).
