أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَسْجُدُ لَهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ وَٱلنُّجُومُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ وَٱلدَّوَآبُّ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ وَمَن يُهِنِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن مُّكْرِمٍ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۩ ﴿18﴾
See you not that whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and Ad-Dawâbb [moving (living) creatures, beasts], and many of mankind prostrate themselves to Allah. But there are many (men) on whom the punishment is justified. And whomsoever Allâh disgraces, none can honour him. Verily, Allâh does what He wills.
أَلَمْ alam Do not
تَرَ tara you see
أَنَّ anna that
ٱللَّهَ l-laha (to) Allah
يَسْجُدُ yasjudu prostrates
لَهُۥ lahu to Him
مَن man whoever
فِى (is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ l-samāwāti the heavens
وَمَن waman and whoever
فِى (is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth
وَٱلشَّمْسُ wal-shamsu and the sun
وَٱلْقَمَرُ wal-qamaru and the moon
وَٱلنُّجُومُ wal-nujūmu and the stars
وَٱلْجِبَالُ wal-jibālu and the mountains
وَٱلشَّجَرُ wal-shajaru and the trees
وَٱلدَّوَآبُّ wal-dawābu and the moving creatures
وَكَثِيرٌۭ wakathīrun and many
مِّنَ mina of
ٱلنَّاسِ ۖ l-nāsi the people
وَكَثِيرٌ wakathīrun But many
حَقَّ ḥaqqa (is) justly due
عَلَيْهِ ʿalayhi on him
ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ l-ʿadhābu the punishment
وَمَن waman And whoever
يُهِنِ yuhini Allah humiliates
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah humiliates
فَمَا famā then not
لَهُۥ lahu for him
مِن min any
مُّكْرِمٍ ۚ muk'rimin bestower of honor
إِنَّ inna Indeed
ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah
يَفْعَلُ yafʿalu does
مَا what
يَشَآءُ ۩ yashāu He wills

18. Do you not see that to Allah prostrate all those who are in the heavens and all those who are on the earth, and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the animals, and many among mankind? But many are (also) deserving of punishment. And whomever Allah humiliates [24], none can give him honor. Indeed, Allah does whatever He wills [25].

The Meaning of Everything in the Universe Prostrating:

In the entire universe, only humans and jinn are accountable beings, and only they have been given the power of will and choice. The rest of creation, by its very nature, is always in a state of prostration before Allah, and the meaning of their prostration is that whatever task Allah has assigned to them, or whatever service has been made their responsibility, and whatever laws have been prescribed for them, they do not deviate from them in the slightest. And among humans, there is also a large group who have made their will subservient to Allah’s will and willingly obey Allah and prostrate before Him. However, there is also a large group among humans who have misused this power of choice and, instead of harmonizing with the rest of creation, have chosen the path of rebellion against Allah’s commands. And they have failed in the test for which Allah created mankind. Such people will certainly have to suffer the punishment of painful torment as a consequence of this rebellion.

[24] That is, turning away from Allah’s commands and rebelling against prostration before Him inevitably results in humiliation and disgrace. And often, the disobedient of Allah have to see this bad outcome even in this world, and if they escape it in this world, then in the Hereafter they will certainly have to face this consequence, and no power will be able to save them from this punishment.

[25] In this Surah Al-Hajj, there are two prostrations of recitation. The first prostration is at this verse number 18, and this is the agreed-upon prostration which every reciter and listener should perform so that they too may harmonize and join with all the things in the universe in their prostration.
