And the true promise (Day of Resurrection) shall draw near (of fulfillment). Then (when mankind is resurrected from their graves), you shall see the eyes of the disbelievers fixedly staring in horror. (They will say): "Woe to us! We were indeed heedless of this - nay, but we were Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)."

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

And the true promise (of the Hour) will draw near, then suddenly the eyes of the disbelievers will be fixed in horror, (and they will say), "Woe to us! We were indeed heedless of this [87]; rather, we were wrongdoers."

[87]
The Day of Judgment Will Be Established Upon the Worst of People:

That is, soon after the onslaught of Gog and Magog, the Day of Judgment will be established. Before the occurrence of the Day of Judgment, all the righteous people will be taken away. Thus, Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas ؓ says that the Day of Judgment will be established upon those who will be the worst among Allah’s creation. [مسلم، كتاب الامارت باب لاتزال طائفة من امتي]
And in the narration from Abdullah bin Mas’ud ؓ, instead of the words “the worst of creation,” the words “the worst of people” are used. That is, the Day of Judgment will come upon those who will be the worst among the people. [مسلم كتاب الفتن و شرائط الساعة]
So when these worst people witness the occurrence of the Day of Judgment, their eyes will remain wide open in shock. At that time, out of regret and despair, they will say that we remained heedless. Then they will themselves say that it was not just heedlessness, but it was our fault that we did not listen to the prophets, otherwise, they had left nothing lacking in their efforts to explain to us.
