سُوْرَةُ الْاَنْۣبِيَآءِ
Surah Al-Anbiyaa (21) — Ayah 9
ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهْلَكْنَا ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ ﴿9﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Then We fulfilled to them the promise. So We saved them and those whom We willed, but We destroyed Al-Musrifûn (i.e. disbelievers in Allah, in His Messengers, extravagants, transgressors of Allâh’s limits by committing crimes, oppressions, polytheism and sins).

9. Then We fulfilled the promise We made to them. We saved them and whomever We willed, and We destroyed those who transgressed all bounds [9].
[9] However, this has always happened with every prophet that some people responded to his call, while most became opponents of the Quran. Then, the promises of victory and help that We made to Our prophets and the believers, We fulfilled all of them, and We saved such people from Our punishment in due time. But those who chose the path of rebellion, We destroyed all of them. O Quraysh of Makkah! You can also ask the People of the Book about this matter.
